    Austin, TX Game Day

I haven't paid much attention to Game Days, because they're all so far away, but Austin be my home. What do we do at a Game Day? Just get together and run one-shots, run tournaments, what? -seasong

Hethas' Gambit continued [top of rnd 8]

Work too hard. Need play. Someone come sneak attack my boss so I can play ;). Seriously, having trouble getting the time to post. Essence is: Xiao Fung is still 'position unknown', and Master + Blaster are being sent an e-mail to confirm some things... but I'm inclined to think that they are...

Hethas' Gambit continued [top of rnd 8]

It will be later this morning due to work, and won't be as many as I was hoping to get done last night :(. In hindsight, I think the fog was a bad idea: 1. Calculating line-of-sight and distance has taken way too much time. And every time one of your little icons moves, I have to double check...

    Alternative Turning Mechanic

    260. A hell hound isn't even as good as one turning attempt. Hell hound (BAB +4 vs AC 15; hits 50% of the time; 1 attack is 1 dead skeleton; kills 1 skeleton every other round) (breath weapon can hit ~5 skeletons, on average every 5 rounds; 1 in 4 or 5 will survive due to low damage + save)...

    Alternative Turning Mechanic

I was attempting to explain how large an area that is. An area that can encompass entire houses and dormitories ain't small. Here's the zero sum version: Undead have cover - old turning: limited by HD and cover, range n/a - new turning, 30 ft cone/10 ft burst: range n/a - new turning, 60 ft...

    Alternative Turning Mechanic

60 ft forward is nasty enough - that's enough to coat most of a small mansion full of undead. The effect on an undead army if you somehow get in the center is just an added bonus. Heck, if every student in my old college dormitory were to turn into a zombie, a cleric standing just outside could...

    Alternative Turning Mechanic

These new rules for turning are more powerful. There is no limit on how many HD of creatures can be turned, nor any limits on how big a bad guy can be taken down by a roll of '1'. A 60 ft burst with no HD limit represents an unholy number of undead that can be turned. -seasong

    Alternative Turning Mechanic

At 5 ft/level, you're talking 100 ft in all directions at 20th level. If that's good for you, then it shouldn't be a problem... But even a 20 ft radius is pretty big. You might try the usual method for wall spells that can be altered into spheres: 1 ft/lvl. That gives a decent area (adjacent)...

    Alternative Turning Mechanic

I like this version: 1. The cleric has a number of turnings per day. 2. A standard action allows the cleric to either turn undead in a 10 ft radius (centered on the cleric), or a 30 ft cone. 3. The DC is 10 + 1/2 cleric level + CHA. 4. Undead who fail the save are treated as turned. Undead who...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Arcane Archer -- Nifft's Version!

What I like best about this PrC is that it can be so very easily tweaked for a bladesinger class. Just replace "bow" with "sword", and it works out just fine. For that matter, swap out "hammer" and replace the arcane with divine, and this would make a pretty flavorful dwarven 'hammer of X god' :).

Hethas' Gambit continued [top of rnd 8]

I think I bounced more than one person. I've only got JDragon, Number47 and Saepiroth. That leaves Sollir Furryfoot, reapersaurus, Jeremy and Cool hand luke. If the latter four could resend to both accounts, I'll try to make sure everything gets through. If I don't get anything today or early...

    D&D 3.x v4: Challenge Ratings pdf (3.5 compatible)

I'm probably missing it somewhere. How are the summon spells broken down in this system? I.e., what limits are set for a summon monster III?

I thought that intelligent constructs could be repaired also? Well, I could, but I'm using this system transparently, in the background. And the results of the Silver Rule have so far been sufficiently dead-on that I'm disinclined to mess with it :p. -seasong

    D&D 3.x v4: Challenge Ratings pdf (3.5 compatible)

The difference between intelligent undead and intelligent constructs is that UNintelligent undead can be healed by others, and unintelligent constructs can not. The incarnate construct receives a Con score because it has become a creature of living flesh, rather than animate XXX. This is...

    D&D 3.x v4: Challenge Ratings pdf (3.5 compatible)

I would think that that would help the lich keep pace with a Cleric who has the same things in reverse. Like I said, I think the factors are individually correct, but that when WotC built the lich, they were assuming it would be only 4 HD under. And really, having had some time with it, I...

Honestly, I think the factors are fine, but that the lich template is designed with an end ECL of +4 in mind. Bump turn resistance to +7, maybe give some DC boosts to the special abilities, and it starts to look all right again.

Hethas' Gambit continued [top of rnd 8]

TOP of ROUND 8 The fierce winds drop off to a gentle breeze as the heat becomes anything but! Great gouts of steam burst randomly from the ground, the water in both river and lake approach the level of a very comfortable hot spring. The rain continues to pour down, but it falls straight down...
