Some "magic fang" and "metal fang" questions (D&D 3.5)

If I have a druid who turns into something that has multiple attacks with different natural weapons (like a lion) and want to use "metal fang," do I have to cast it on each foot and the mouth (5 times total), or just on claw and bite (2 times total) or claw, bite, and rend (3 times total)? Can...

    Building A Deeper Horror World

I have always run my games (CoC, D&D, etc.) as sandboxes, with a lot going on all over the place. The players end up following any leads or rumors they want - or simply wandering about, in some cases - and don't always follow them to a "natural conclusion," as you would have in a more...

Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter to be Rebooted!

That's not what people are saying. Given how long he has been working on his world, it's not unreasonable to want to see some sample of it, or (at the very least) a good overview of the flavor of the world, what types of things makes it different from other similar worlds. That's stuff that...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

I played a ton of Champions back in the 80s, and loved it. Once you got the character creation part down, you could model just about any power. I have been trying to find players for a superhero game for years. I would love to run a Wild Talents: Progenitor one (or Kerberos Club), but nobody...

Awaken To A World Of Magic With Mage The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition

The complaints I have heard are that some people's copies of the standard edition have warped pages (from the ink) and/or that the bindings aren't very strong. The latter wouldn't surprise me, given the size of the book.

Awaken To A World Of Magic With Mage The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition

I'm reading a lot of conflicting reports about the binding and paper quality of the two hardcover editions. For those who have it, what are your thoughts on that?

Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter to be Rebooted!

I like Frank Mentzer (gamed with him at a convention) and admire his work. I have learned over time, though, that even when I like MOST games by a person, that doesn't mean I like them all. The price of games today - particularly these big ones - are significant enough that I have to have a...

Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter to be Rebooted!

It seems that way to me, too, especially with all the talk of how complex the project is. We still don't even know much about the setting itself, which should be relatively easy to explain.

Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter to be Rebooted!

To be honest, requiring NDAs on a project that has already gone to the Kickstarter point comes across as either wanting to play up some nonexistent mysteriousness for marketing purposes or grossly overestimating the value of the project.

Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter to be Rebooted!

You can easily put in more detail about the actual setting. In the end, that's what is going to convince people to pledge or not.

Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter to be Rebooted!

I no longer back any rpg Kickstarters if the majority of the book hasn't already been written and if there's not a lot of specific information about the game setting on the Kickstarter page.

#RPGaDAY Day 20: What is the best source for out-of-print RPGs?

eBay, Amazon, and local used bookstores.

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

Yep, I know that's why many don't do it. My point is that when they opt out of things like that, they give me even less reason to visit their stores and buy their other products. I'm sure that's true for a lot of people, based on various comments I have heard on various forums. With Amazon...

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

Every business should have good customer service, whether they are brick-and-mortar or online. What I'm saying is that local game stores have the opportunity to provide a free service to their customers via Free RPG Day that helps them stand out from online sellers. It's something they can...

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

Yep. Though MSRP is the official "standard" price, the functional standard price is the Amazon price.

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

I would call it a lack of customer service because they failed to bring the products to their customer base. It's also poor marketing, particularly since Free RPG Day is designed to get more people into game shops. They could have had me and a lot of other people in their stores on that day...

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

No game, comic, or hobby store near me participated in Free RPG day. There are a lot of stores within a 30-minute highway drive from my house, and almost all of them have open game spaces and carry RPG books. That's the sort of short-sighted lack of customer service that I find in most (not...

D&D 5E (2014) FAMOUS LAST WORDS: "It wouldn't be here if we weren't supposed to fight it."

At the beginning of a campaign (and at various points throughout it), I make sure to tell players that running away is the best option sometimes, and that they shouldn't assume that they can defeat everything they encounter.

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

    Those are great ideas!

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

I look for RPGs other that aren't D&D or Pathfinder, selections of paints beyond Citadel, minis that aren't the same ones that everyone else carries, terrain, used books and items, and a lot more. I understand why many game stores don't carry a very deep selection of those things, but there's...
