D&D 5E (2014) How cognizant are you of the rules of the game?

I'll try to pick the best options for what fits with a given character concept in a vacuum. Not purely optimized, and not a fluff bunny gimp. And depending on the table and setting I'll play it and tweak by ear. There might be something in the system that is incredibly easy to attain with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Conan in 5e?

Rp wise outlander is better. Mechanically criminal is. I guess you can fill in the gaps with all the extra feat slots. Get proficiency in perception, stealth, outdoors skills, athletics, through some combo of class background and feat. It's not perfect but classes are flexible archetypes...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fluffs or Feats? Your re-skinning thread

Depends on the change. For the proposed change I might simply homebrew a slight class variation rather than simply reskining as the changes are far reaching. Then there's stuff like how to deal with someone who wants to fight with a shield like Captain America. 1d8 finesse blunt 30/60. It...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Conan in 5e?

Conan from most stories is best represented as a fighter with criminal background. He's not a berserker, he often wears armor. Even in the first Conan movie (which is my favorite template for that seems like a fun SND campaign). He usually wears armor when appropriate. When he isn't it's...

D&D 5E (2014) My lvl 3 Paladin just crit for 58 damage - Did I do it right?

Yes, that is my reading of how those skills interact. Paladins, especially Vengeance are about novas and boss killing. They're resilient and have some nice healing. Their real weakness is lack of aoe and opportunity cost in holding slots for a critical that might never come. Good luck.

D&D 5E (2014) What do you do when your players are gunshy?

Well that was a less than happy ending. From the Op post, I figured it wouldn't be ideal, but I thought it'd be the group breaking up. I hope you have more fun with that time. My only advice would have been that the players themselves seemed to have incompatible goals as a party, and on the...

D&D 5E (2014) Spare the rod, spoil the warlock....Rod of Pact Keeper question

I'd ask your gm. I would personally allow arcane focus rods to be used as clubs or quarterstaves myself depending on their description. I would extend this to rods as well, I see no serious mechanical issue with it, and thematically it's pretty dope. Someone asked Mearls about it using focuses...

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

I think that at level 1, few characters are going to want to give up 2 points for a feat. I think there's no attractive trade to make another feat desirable without altering early game balance. I'd just offer them a free feat heads up, and balance the game by adding just a little bit more than...

D&D 5E (2014) What kind of adventures might you buy?

I picked single session adventure. But really I mean 1-4 sessions adventure. That's okay, campaigns like they have done are too much.

    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian troubles

Sounds like you handled it pretty well, and the guy s a bit of a problem child. I can't give you better advice to handle your friend than you can. Only that I'd talk to him headsup. You don't want to kill characters for a number of reasons, it basically sucks. But you also don'tant the game to...

D&D 5E (2014) Do LEVELS Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

Spell levels are a noted thing in universe. Levels aren't, they're an abstraction of relative power levels. You can't see the difference between a lvl 1 and lvl 20 fighter in a line up in identical gear, but you will really quick in a fight. But that's about it.

D&D 5E (2014) How might one monk grab and steal another monk's staff in combat?

That sounds like a pretty dope adventure you got going.

D&D 5E (2014) Do Classes Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

There's a ton of angles to look at this from but basically, something in between. There are definitely professions directly, name included to many of the classes. It's often but not always true for a number or reasons. Such as Throm Woodblast Paladin of the Sun Order, he smites fools, he heals...

    D&D 5E (2014) Can Dragonborn play a flute?

A bunch of decent answers, that they could use similar things but maybe not a normal flute. For the sake of laziness, I would just say "They can talk in all of the various languages using their lips, so they can probably move them well enough to use a flute. Though it's not a instrument...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter Weapon Choice

That's a fair enough way to put it in general. Though you could also argue that what made a shortsword an effective weapon in certain conflicts doesn't really have a reflection in the RAW. By RAW it's the dual wielding weapon, not the fighting in a tight space weapon, there's no rules for that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Valuable Stuff

I've done stuff like that in the past. I'll describe the treasure, but unless it's something I thought about for a bit, it's just a description what I'm writing down as X amount of gold. If my players are really into that treasure, they can write it down, and tell me later. "I put up the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter Weapon Choice

That is a growing opinion, and all the same it comes mostly out of the idea that the cartridge is suboptimal for that particular conflict. The idea that the CBR is superior in every meaningful way is a slowly growing idea in the tactical community. But still very much a minority opinion. And...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter Weapon Choice

I agree, damage in the game is simpler. If the PCs did such an experiment they would see that they could kill the average orc 6 seconds faster if they were hammering, in a way that was fairly conclusive when removed from the heat of battle(otherwise anecdotally, they wouldn't be sure). Which of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter Weapon Choice

I think my biggest point of contention is the bolded part. In real life I've spent hours reading and listening to people argue whether or not 9mm vs .45 was superior, or whether 5.56 versus 7.62 was superior. Whether bullet quality was more important, whether bullet placement was the only...

D&D 5E (2014) Just About Sick Of Darkvision.

Yeah Dark Vision creatures, especially smarter ones like Drow and the like, still use lights. Dark vision moves you up from darkness to dim, and dim to bright. You still can't see as great in what's now for you dim light, you're not going to read a book or have a fancy party like that. The...
