Pathfinder 2E The playtest is here!!

This is a playtest document. Look at their bestiary here. No fluff. Same for the class skills and such. Compare the PF1 rule book with the playtest rulebook. Expecting that the PF2 release rulebook is going to be the same language as what they release it as seems silly. We’re not here to test...

Pathfinder 2E The playtest is here!!

Just because the rulebooks clearly spell things out doesn’t mean that the game at the table plays that way. When a rules issue comes up at the table there is value to having clear and concise rules. Or you can have 5e where the DM is constantly having to house rules decisions with little idea of...

It’s LAUNCH DAY For The Pathfinder 2 Playtest!

I’m also likely going to convert our current level 11 PF2 game to PF2. Interesting to see how it works. Converting our spec and Druid are easy, but oracle and paladin/fighter will be a bit harder. I’ll find out what parts need changing then, but right now I really like the base chassis being...

It’s LAUNCH DAY For The Pathfinder 2 Playtest!

Wow you like the five foot shuffle of PF1? That’s surprising since no one I play with likes it. The whole get into position and then never move because you’re 1) afraid to get attacked and 2) don’t want to give up full attacks was the worst part of PF1. It turned batttles into slog fests where...

    PF2: Spells!

Yaerel in PF1 at high levels martials get four attacks to full casters two. Or at medium high levels three to casters one. So one action for attacks in that light is pretty much the same. However I wouldn’t worry about exponential martials that much here. There are a few things released so far...

    PF2: Spells!

Well for the art I assume much of it will translate over to the real release corebook. As for the play test document there is a free pdf to download but when they did PF1 they found there was a lot of desire for a printed book because people were going out and printing 450 page document at...

    PF2: Spells!

They do like rolling dice, in fact their new method for scaling magic weapons is very much like that. +1 weapon being roll an extra damage dice for the damage bonus instead of +1 static. I don’t think they’re willing to go as far as advantage. Advantage suits 5e fine, but PF does want more...

Pathfinder 1E Fighter Weapon Training Advice: Is there a Heavy Blade with Reach?

Heavy blade in PF1 isn’t used a lot. It’s basically things like the greatsword, falchion, etc. I agree the glaive has a blade (as does the Fauchard or some other bladed reach weapons) but none of them count as heavy blades. For your later two statements there is nothing preventing a player from...

    PF2: Spells!

I think he's holding too much to a comment made about the magic system in that it was one of the first things made for PF2 3 years ago when D&D 5e was also in development. I think it was Mark who said that he didn't play 5th but ended up getting to a similar type system.

[PF2] Gnome and Halfling ancestry up on Paizo blog

I completely agree that charisma makes the most sense for goblins. I'm however not sure what you mean about class synergy for all small races getting cha. In my ideal world I'd move Gnomes to being +int.

Pathfinder 1E Fighter Weapon Training Advice: Is there a Heavy Blade with Reach?

Glaive is just a pole arm with reach in PF1. Main issue is you’re not going to be a good dueler RP wise if you can’t go up close with an enemy. Reach in PF means you can’t attack adjacent without big penalties.

    PF2: Spells!

I play in two different PF1 campaigns (one as DM) and we throw out way too much of the PF1 ruleset to realistically say its a good system out of the box. Heavily modded it works well enough until math/etc just breaks down past level 10. From what I'm seeing they're keeping the complexity of...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

My view on all this is that they seem to have done the thing to allow each race to have a plus physical/mental stat. If that wasn't a constraint I could see con/dex with a penalty to wis or something else. But given the descriptions they're given there really isn't a lot to point to them being...

Pathfinder 1E Fighter Weapon Training Advice: Is there a Heavy Blade with Reach?

Yeah even if that fixes the heavy blade requirement you have there is very few weapons that are both reach and non reach at the same time. And they’re all pretty weird weapons. You could do pole arm master and be able to do both with a penalty to up close (that eventually does go away but not...
