    [Heroic Solos] Lividius, Tiefling Murderer

I didn't transcribe Infernal Wrath, since it's the tiefling racial power, and pretty well known. ;)

    [Heroic Solos] Lividius, Tiefling Murderer

I really enjoyed the previous discussion of the Black Dragon, Jr from D&D Comic #0. Like skill challenges and class powers, I find the evolution of the Solo state of the art an interesting measuring stick of 4E design progress. In this same vein, I thought I'd try opening the floor for the...

    Essentials DM Kit in Hand

Table rules are the usual meta-game stuff from the DMG. The Fallcrest stuff doesn't look new, but the Vale in general has a number of new, expanded, or consolidated entries from various sources, like the Chaos Scar, Gardbury Downs, Fiveleague House, etc. It's a bit more fleshed out than the...

Bummed about Reavers in DM Kit

If you don't have The Slaying Stone yet, it is of similar quality to Reavers of Harkenwold (if shorter). It's a good value at $15.

    New DM's Kit? Anybody?

It just occurred to me that while the Essentials DM's Book isn't exactly Head First Dungeons & Dragons, that would be a darn interesting book. Remember B1? Imagine a D&D primer with both rules, guidelines, and 2 or 3 levels worth of half-finished adventure mixed in where the DM has to fill in...

    New DM's Kit? Anybody?

I noticed the glossier cover right away. The digest format is virtually identical between this book and the other two, however. Aside from minor variations of glue binding in all thee books, the dimensions are the same. The trade dress doesn't wrap around to the back cover of the DM's Book...

    Rampant Speculation: Ebooks!

    Essentials DM Kit in Hand

Nope, 'fraid not. Same glossy, 32-page booklets with 2-page encounter format entries. However, Reavers is not a dungeon crawl, there are actual NCPs, non-linear plot advancement, and the only skill challenge I've seen so far makes a lot of sense. So it's got that going for it. ;)

    New DM's Kit? Anybody?

I just finished skimming my copy. TirionAnthion has also started a thread here. I'm replying on this one since there's more activity here. The Dungeon Master's Book does appear to be pretty redundant, and I agree that it's not targeted at us (experienced 4E DMs). It doesn't (entirely) replace...

    D&D 4E Most useless 4e Feat?

Power Attack can be fried awesome on a stick for avengers. No doubt that there are universally useless feats out there, but just because your characters can't use a feat, doesn't mean there isn't a build out there that can leverage it.

    DDI September/October Update info

I've guessed for a while that they'd eventually leverage their WPF codebase for a Silverlight implementation of their current client apps. That would not necessarily mean online-only, but that could be pretty likely, or it could be a hybrid WPF/Silverlight client. Silverlight would definitely...

Future of WotC PDFs: Unofficial Sneak Preview?

I just bought a 3rd generation kindle because the price-point dropped below my impulse threshold, and the form factor is targeted directly at my needs. In my case, that's mostly novels; a traditional long-form book format. There's roughly two kinds of media we care about reading: one where page...

    "Whenever you hit an enemy"?

It's much, much simpler than that. The game needs a term for the successful outcome of an attack roll. Instead of repeating the phrase "successful attack roll" fifty-bazillion times, they decided to use the word 'hit' as an official rules term for that outcome. Perhaps they could have chosen a...

Future of WotC PDFs: Unofficial Sneak Preview?

In my experience, pre-installed version of Acrobat Reader are inevitably 2-3 major versions out of date, which is fine up until you download a PDF requiring a newer version. Then you have to update Reader, which nullifies any convenience of not having to install anything. This has been my...

Future of WotC PDFs: Unofficial Sneak Preview?

Acrobat Reader isn't additional software? While ubiquitous and commonly pre-installed on many PCs, it requires as much version maintenance as any other application (if not more). The Portable Document Format was designed as a high fidelity document transport mechanism. If your use-case involves...

    D&D 4E WotC's 4E Setting approach - was it a mistake?

The three-and-out model, as a strict formula, is already dead; lifespan: 3 years (I'm giving DS some wiggle-room here). Whenever a corporation (or anyone for that matter) makes a declarative statement about the future, consider adding a silent "as far as we know" right there at the end of it...

/agreed If it has to have DRM on it, let it please be through a serious vendor (Amazon!), rather than a train wreck at Digital River.

    Essentials Game Day recap

Thanks! Good to know. By the OP's description it sounded just like the level 4 version, which would have been beyond brutal.
