So what's gold gonna be for?

A compromise route might be having low level magic items possibly available to purchase (for example, potions and up to +2 items), but mid to high level magic is simply too rare. And like earlier editions there are those who might be willing to buy items off of you (eg. powerful wizard guilds)...

So what's gold gonna be for?

Iron Heroes had some ways of using your money called "Wealth Feats". Conceptually it was interesting, but the execution was so-so. You start by putting money into a Wealth Pool - 100gp grants you 1 Wealth Point. Each Wealth Feat required a certain amount of Wealth Points to buy in (they don't...

So what's gold gonna be for?

Actually that came from one of the podcasts - they only toyed with the idea but aren't going to use it. IIRC, I think the big sticking point was that copper became even more worthless as the standard is still gold.

So what's gold gonna be for?

What I used to do, pre-3e, when the PCs started becoming high level was to encourage them to create something for the campaign - something that would outlast the character who built it. In the past I've seen PCs create their own knighthood in their name, a multiplanar spy network, a city of...

    Dragon's Tail Cut?

I don't mind evocative names myself - so long as they actually suggest what is being done. I would never guess that "Dragon Tail Cut" was some kind of knockdown attack. Dragon Hammer, Dragontail Strike, Dragontail Lash - if you have to use "dragon" in the name. I like the word "hammer" myself...

I think I've figured out power sources...

No, the disparites would be far too great for attack bonuses.

I think I've figured out power sources...

That's really more of a "Caster Level" issue than an Attack Bonus one. And on the Caster Level note, they may do something along the lines of Bo9S but it could get a little tricky if they decide certain classes should marry up better than others. Primary Spellcaster + Primary Spellcaster...

I think I've figured out power sources...

I suspect there'll just be two different advancement progressions (like Saga, though with 30 levels to cover they may juggle the numbers a bit) - let's call them Good & Poor. Fighter has Good (Weapon) Attack Bonus, Poor everything else (for the purposes of multiclassing). The Wizard, Good...

D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

I've tried accessing them while logged in, logged out... I've already migrated my screen name etc. over to Gleemax and can access their main page and my personal settings. I've tried being logged in & logged out there as well. The forums are the one thing I just can't access...

D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

I figured that was the case. Anyone have a suggestion why this may be happening?

All I get is a database error page when clicking on the link - is it just me?

I think I've figured out power sources...

That said, the "power sources" themselves I'm sure just refer to the various powers, spells and Bo9S-style manuevers characters can pick up. Also, the attack values themselves are likely to be very tight - like Saga I'm certain you won't see anyone with as low an attack bonus as +1/2 levels...

I think I've figured out power sources...

Yeah, I thought that was pretty much a given as soon as they mentioned that Wizards could make attack rolls with spells... So like the Monk, they'll have two different attack tables. I don't think they'll differentiate between Arcane and Divine though - probably just "Spell Attack Bonus".

D&D 4E What don't you like about 4E so far? (Not a rant)

Actually, this has been increasingly on my mind as well. When our group was playtesting 3e, we had ~8 months, and there were groups doing it longer than that. Even that didn't feel like enough time. While I realize the game isn't as great a departure from the previous edition as 3e was, it is...

D&D 4E What don't you like about 4E so far? (Not a rant)

My biggest gripes so far... 1. As Irda Ranger points out - the deliberate removal of some of the classic D&D monsters from the 1st MM to help pad out the manuals down the line. 2. Some of the names WotC manages to come up with makes me hang my head in sadness - some of the Wizard Traditions...

    D&D 4E I'm really concerned about 4E

Wayne, I hope you're right. I can't believe they've even considered charging extra for *virtual* miniatures. Randomized virtual packs ??!? - WTF indeed.

You are kidding about the virtual minis, right?

    D&D 4E I'm really concerned about 4E

As far as the DI, virtual tabletop offerings go - I really don't expect it to be all that compelling right out of the gate. It's going to take time for them to find their feet, hammer out all the little problems and build a robust offering. It's still 6 months+ away so there's little point in...

    James Wyatt + FR!?

Although getting a little off-topic, it does touch upon something I hope they address in 4e. My answer is to the question is - Why shouldn't he, if it's only going to take 5 minutes out his day? Teleport w/o error in, salt the earth the goblins, teleport back... then go have breakfast. If you...
