    A 30th-level Party needs 50th-level Monsters...

It's be pretty easy to guess who might fall into the latter category... I have one concern though I touched upon in another thread and that is I hope the Fiend Lords are sufficiently ahead of the generic monster crowd on the power scale so we don't wonder how they could have held their...

New tidbit about spells and hit points.

Very interesting to the Half-HP condition change apply to PCs, though I'm not so keen on the term "Bloodied" as that doesn't necessarily have to be the case (poisoned, drained, etc.). A more generic "Wounded" might be better. It also sounds like they might not be completely getting away from...

    D&D 4E WotC guys - Playtesting 4E in Canada/outside the US?

I was a Canadian playtester for 3e (and while I can't offer Seahawks tickets I've got Canadian beer! That's gotta be worth at least as much... :D ) and there didn't seem to be a problem with NDAs at that time. Were there some recent legal changes that potentially creates an issue here? With the...

    D&D 4E 4e Dungeon Design - New Article

Ever since they began talking about mooks I wondered if they were going to use swarm-like tactics. For example, 4 kobolds attacking the same character could work as a team and make a single attack at a higher attack bonus, presenting a more credible threat to higher level characters...

    D&D 4E 4e Dungeon Design - New Article

I thought it might be the new kobold as well (it does look a little stumpy), certainly more threatening looking than the previous iterations. Not so sure about the diaper though...

D&D 4E 4E suggestion - remove save or die in favour of two types of hitpoints

About 3 years ago I tinkered with a HR I called Resolve Points (I remember posting it here too) that did very much what Gort is suggesting. It's essentially like HP, but for Will Save effects, withstanding interrogation, intimidation, serious injury, etc. Instead of an all-or-nothing Will...

    Design & Dev: Monsters (DRAGONS!)

Which is exactly my point. The only way they can believably hold onto their lofty positions is by being a significant cut above any standard race of monster.

    D&D 4E WotC guys - Playtesting 4E in Canada/outside the US?

As I recall, there were some playtesters outside of North America...

    Gno more gnomes?

Ah, sweet satisfaction - gnomes are out of the PHB! Though Chris Sims seems to suggest they'll appear in the MM (and be written up as a monster) and probably later as a PC race in another book. I feel a new 4e PC coming on with gnomicidal tendencies...

    D&D 4E WotC guys - Playtesting 4E in Canada/outside the US?

Unless they're changing from what they did for 3e (and I can't imagine why they would...), being Canadian wouldn't exclude you.

    Design & Dev: Monsters (DRAGONS!)

We can assume that if the game goes to 30th level, the Demon Lords in the MM will not be much higher than the low to mid 30s themselves (which is what I assume they'll fall in). That should leave a good 6-10+ CR difference between the mightiest dragons and the Fiend Lords which feels about...

    Playtesting

When we were doing it, you could certainly comment on other aspects of the game, and in the early PTing there was more of that, but as it starting coming together in earnest they broke groups down to cover specific areas of the game.

    Playtesting

It's been a long time, but I've playtested for WotC in the past. And as I recall they used a set a pre-generated (1st - 20th level) baseline "iconic" characters to test against monsters and such... But to answer your earlier question, they break playtesting down into different areas of the game...

    iterative attacks and TWF

Also note the in one of the previous design and dev. articles they mention a 3rd level fighter who chose to use the longsword so that he could get 2 attacks/rd.

    Design & Dev: Monsters (DRAGONS!)

In case you missed it, check out Mike Mearls' reply a few posts above yours. I don't doubt that there will be ways to combine "maneuvers" magic and solid crits to dole out some serious damage. But 500 HP is insane amounts of damage for just one roll...

    Design & Dev: Monsters (DRAGONS!)

Actually, multiple attacks still exist - there's the Design & Dev. article that talked briefly about a 3rd level fighter with a longsword making multiple attacks. It could be that it requires a feat to accomplish (like SWS) though...
