D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

This is what makes Gish-type character so attractive to me personally. They have both options and can go hard into melee. I am including Rangers and Paladins in that.

D&D 5E (2024) Best Bard spell to pair with Beguiling magic on Ranger/Bard if you have a low Charisma

It has to be an illusion or Enchantment to trigger Beguiling Magic (and by extension Beguiling Twist). There aren't many of them that buff. Heroism I guess? But that is concentration, and I think I would rather concentrate on something else. There is mirror image too.

D&D 5E (2024) Best Bard spell to pair with Beguiling magic on Ranger/Bard if you have a low Charisma

I am playing a multiclassed Fey Wanderer Ranger/Glamour Bard. I have 9 levels in Ranger and am wondering what enchantment or illusion spell I should pick up from Bard 3. I only have a 14 Charisma so the save DC on my Bard spells and Beguiling Magic is not great (DC 14), but I have a 20 Wisdom...

D&D 5E (2024) Campaigns, Stress Tests 2024 Impressions So Far

My advice is pay attention to the masteries. If our experience is common you will need to remind your players in the beginning.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Following are some details. A bit long, but it is a cool story for anyone with the time. It does feel truly epic. So when I did this there was a bit of a roleplay conflict going on between me and other party members, something that rarely happens. The rest of the party were supporting a...

D&D 5E (2024) Paladins can Smite on Ranged attacks (with thrown melee weapons) now!

Two of my 2020 campaigns have a Rogue-Paladin My I just finished a campaign with a PC that had Rogue and Paladin: Halfling Rogue 10/Paladin 1/Fey Warlock 8/Bard 1. She took the Paladin dip very early at level 2. She primarily used a Sortsword, Vicous Dagger and Rapier with Agonizing...

D&D 5E (2024) Campaigns, Stress Tests 2024 Impressions So Far

I have seen mostly the same in the two 2024 campaigns, one we played level 2-19 (did not finish last week like I thought, finishes this week), the other we are 11th level. We did similar on backgrounds, everyone either uses a 2014 or a custom. I have seen similar on almost everything you said...

D&D 5E (2024) Paladins can Smite on Ranged attacks (with thrown melee weapons) now!

It ups the power quite a bit, especially if you play with max Charisma and use the controlling aspects of Wrathful Smite. Even in melee only, WS was already arguably the most powerful offensive 1st level spell, the main downside to it was you needed to use a reach weapon or push weapon or take...

Dungeons & Dragons Comments On Possibility of Future Movie Projects

What I really liked about the first D&D movie is that it seemed to be like things would happen in a real game, instead of trying to be tell the story of the adventure. I thought it was awesome.

D&D General Drow as in Cow or Drow as in Snow: Where did the Dark Elves Come From?

Depends on my mood. Sometimes it is cow sometimes it is snow.

D&D 5E (2024) Paladins can Smite on Ranged attacks (with thrown melee weapons) now!

I don't read it that way, I don't think most people do either. Also the reverse of this is why you have disadvantage when you throw a melee weapon with an enemy within 5 feet when you have sharpshooter, the reason is that throwing a melee weapon does not make it a Ranged weapon. Thrown on a...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

Primary caster is better than just caster, if that is what you are talking about. But while that logic might work for 17th level characters, 1st level Rangers and Paladins have 1st level spells just like the full casters. On top of that, 1st level Rangers can actually cast more spells per day...

D&D 5E (2024) Paladins can Smite on Ranged attacks (with thrown melee weapons) now!

You don't have to center it on thrown weapons, but toss a dagger or javelin and Wrathful smite it to keep an enemy at distance until they can save while you concentrate on another enemy, or use it to smite on that pesky flying dragon. The main thing against doing a thrown weapon centric build...

Dragonlance "You walk down the road, party is now level 2."

SODQ was the fastest campaign I have ever played. If I remember correctly we got to level 4 in the first session.

    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Yeah, my 4E experience is one big reason why I think balance hurts the game and is far less fun overall. Despite many, many people saying they want class balance, I have not seen any actual evidence it leads to a more fun game.

D&D 5E (2024) Paladins can Smite on Ranged attacks (with thrown melee weapons) now!

One thing I did not catch is the wording on Divine Smite and Wrathful Smite allows for smiting on a Ranged Attack. Bonus Action, which you take immediately after hitting a creature with a Melee weapon or an Unarmed Strike One of my players pointed this out. Since it is melee "weapon" and...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

I would say that you should call that martial vs non-martial, or qualify it as full caster. Rangers and Paladins are casters by any definition .... they have spells and it is a core part of their identity and class abilities. Aside from spellcasting, Paladins have two more specific class...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

I don't have an ideological issue. I am just stating facts. It is not "caster rather than a martial". A caster is someone who casts spells. That is a pretty simple and unassailable concept. A martial is a bit more esoteric and open to interpretation. I would say someone who relies on...
