D&D General Dnd is a 10th level game, how's the balance?

If you go with 5+ encounters per day and 1-3 short rests per long rest, levels 1-10 is pretty balanced. Casters don't have the slots to dominate over 4 encounters to overshadow Martials. Bonuses are low unless extremely powergamed and with massive drawbacks.

D&D General How many healing potions do you give your party?

Very common. There is a whole basic healing potion economy in both my settings. But only adventurers, high ranking officers, and nobility enter it. Every town who has a healer, alchemist, or apothecary has healing potions. However they are too expensive for commoners. But healing potions...

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

A wave IMO is a playstyle, culture, or genre of RPG which either dominated the TTRPG discussion, popularized mechanics, lore, or ideology that other RPGs draw from, or set/fathered a trend of new RPGs.

I like waves because it forces styles to prove they've made a massive impact on the community before claiming a stake in the fabric of TTRPGs. They need to make waves before classification.

This is why I also considered the design intent and execution of the mechanics being able to create the genres's vibes. A game can call itself heroic all at once but if the PCS can barely survive one or two hits and really have a chance to show their heroics then claiming it is creating a wave...

The point was that those genre didn't have games popular or well known enough to cause a wave of popularity within the total FRPG community. Can't be a wave if you don't make a splash. Feel free to name RPGs that made waves in genres not represented. ----+ So with recent examples Sword and...

Its fairly easy Name 3 RPGs of a similar genre with similar lore or mechanics.

The genre are recognizable. The games identified with them aren't (Except for Urban which I ID WOD with first with Dark due to the anti tech natures of WOD kindred and werewolves). Name a well known Mythic or War FRPG that caused a trend.

After coffee I realized that. Then name them. That's likely why there lack a wave. They don't instantly invoke attachments to any genre.

This is a talk about generations. You don't get a generation of you aren't popular and impact the FRPG community.

Meaning there hasn't been a time where FRPG design for those genres has been very popular or captured the zeitgeist of game design. Like War Fantasy, there hasn't been a big game that seemlessly transitions from RPG to Wargame and back.

Maybe we should use fantasy genres with attachable aspects that the game was designed and published around over debatable terms not tied to anything. Sword and Sorcery (1E & early 2E) Epic Fantasy (Mid 2E) Dark Fantasy (Late 2E, WOD) Dungeon Fantasy (3E) Adventure Fantasy (3.5E, PF 1&2)...

    D&D 5E (2024) Species based NPC Attacks

One thing I loved about 4e is it gave almost every race a racial power as a PC feature and the damage calculation of monsters per level was simple. So if you wanted to quickly diversify a group of enemies by race, you could swap in a power, do some calculations, and now the monster feels more...

Many rules means the DM has to learn a lot. Few rules means the DM has to be more in sync with the players. Knowing a lot of rules (You can just feet equal to your STR score) Vs Knowing your players (You and your player must have similar ideas of how far you can jump) A lot of the rules heavy...

That's another thing. 3e, 4e, and 5e are lumped into the same generation even though they have totally different player to DM relationships in publishing and total publishing schedules. But the first 25 years of D&D is carved into 3 generations. 5e's player focused but no way like 4e or 3e...

I disagree. I am saying that TSR published D&D in an idiotic manner. WOTC's player focus sales strategy is what any publisher who was smart would do if they have the money to do so. Indie creators don't do it because they don't have the money to do it. But if they blow up and suddenly have...
