Is the economic crisis affecting your gaming purchasing?

Only a personal financial crisis that has nothing to do with the global economic crisis, is influencing my spending pattern right now. Still means I probably won't buy anything beyond the power books and the phb 2 over the next year. No miniatures and such...

    Your character died. Big deal.

I can see the advantages storywise to a deathflag game approach, but I think at least in D&D it would take away so much tension during the non-important combats that iot would ruin those encounters for me... Which is why as a DM I hardly ever have random encounters. Every encounter should...

    Getting back on the horse

What I've found with skill challenges is that whenever I announce them they turn awkward as my players stare at their character sheet and think of a skill they could use, but nothing much comes out. Whereas when I don't announce them and just ask them for a reaction to a certains ituation or...

Whats going on in your game ?

In a rip-off setting of Earthdawn, the characters have just emerged from their underground village after a ritual used to keep a barrier up against the Horrors failed, leaving them unprotected. They've gone out, helped out another underground village with their Horror problem and are now trying...

Forked Thread: Logan Bonner has some Questions....

And even in crpg's those are the bad uninteresting kind of quests, although sadly all too common... Anyway, the quests I give xp for are stuff like finding the cure for a disease that is destroying all the crops around the village, help out the nearby town that is under attacks from ghouls...

Forked Thread: Logan Bonner has some Questions....

1: I'd describe my games as plot driven action adventures. I like action and I like it to be frantic and tense, but without a good plot, it's just so much nonsense. Having a well developed character is important, but so is levelling it and seeing it grow in stats/powers, so you can feel the...

    "Lose 'em!" How?

Well, they are bigger ships and if you're not restricted to just open ocean, you can have the players try to navigate a treacherous strait or shoals in order to have the bigger ships strand or hit the rocks or force them to take the long way round. Perception and maybe nature might help to spot...

    How Long Is YOUR Campaign?

Well my group is involved with 2 campaigns at the same time, playing on alternate weeks, so as to give the DM's some playing time too. In my campaign I usually level the characters roughly every 2 to 3 sessions, each lasting 4 or 5 hours. Slower than that and I start to get frustrated with...

Let The Players Manage Themselves Part 3, waitaminute...

But postmodern roleplaying can be so much fun: Dresden Codak casts Magic Missile Anyway, having done my Dresden Codak plug in, I kind of have to agree that these editorials seem to miss the point sometimes. Then again, maybe the point is really just to say that this is how they do it and it can...

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate about 4e D&D

They can't use a maul without a feat either though, so I don't see your point exactly...

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate about 4e D&D

Love: There are many things I love about 4e, but the biggest part has to be the ease and fun of DM'ing, that's the biggest thing they did right. Hate: My main beef with 4e is that I feel limited in character creation. I don't know if this is due to lack of options that will be resolved with...

How long would this 4e combat last?

I hear you. I wish our DM would understand that just a little better. He keeps throwing high level single opponents against us and though we beat them with the use of pretty much all of our resources, it just isn't fun to see 90% of your attacks miss...

    Instead of a Screen...

What we do is usually use the coffeetable as the play table and everybodys its on the couch/chairs around it. As a DM I have a normal height small table with a DM screen on it next to me, so I can use it as a protected area for rolling dice and keeping notes. Although at 6'4" I don't really have...

What do you want to see from 4E Publishers?

To be honest I'm really looking forward to the WotC player options books like the martial/devine/arcane power books, but extra monster books are always welcome and campaign settings with specific classes/weapons/races for that setting would also be nice...

    Monster Reskinning

I reskinned a human mage into an animal controlling horror who would send flights of bats and birds to suicide attack people instead of just blasting them with arcane energy. Quite a lot of fun... :) There are still a lot of monsters in the MM we haven't encountered, so I don't need to reskin a...

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

Running 4E has been one of the best roleplay experiences in my life so far. It's easy, it's fun and I can focus my energy on making interesting stories and battles instead of on the endless details of 3.5... Playing 4E I must admit I sometimes feel like my characaters are a bit restricted in...

    One Million Orcs

It's the Peacable Tree****er Clan led by a young hunter that has a mobile camp with lots of boars... :p They're a bunch of hippie orcs... :p

    Changes - what is possible?

I usually steer the party in a certain direction storywise, but if they make surprising actions that story can change at any time and that can indeed have large effects on the world. My latest homebrew will be very open ended, so I'm curious to see what they will do to it.

Games that didn't survive first contact. . .

I ran Werewolf the Forsaken for a few sessions until I realized that the game is not very suited to being played with 6 players (something most WoD games suffer from) and that although the combat was simple, with 6 players it would still take ages to resolve anything (either that or everybody...

How much stuff do your players buy?

In our group you buy your own core books, your own dice and your own splat books if you want those. We're usually not very restrictive on what splatbooks are allowed. Battlemat and minis we share, because it would be ridiculous to have 1 person pay that much more for something the whole group uses.
