    Games you won't play

I don't LARP; Vampire, all that jazz. Never have, never will. Uber gothic-themed games where players are werewolves, vampires, ghosts - those things just don't appeal to me in the very slightest.

What's so special about your homebrew?

In short, it is a low magic, politically-charged world that is entirely humanocentric. Some of the more interesting facets of the game revolve around a great internal war that has torn asunder one of the most influential and resource rich nations in the known world. The nation of Aglador...

Is D&D About Having Power Without Responsibility?

My experience as a player has been that a lot of people run games to simply "kill stuff, get loot" while following some fantastical storyline that has little if any permanent effect on the world around them. From the opinions I read often on EnWorld, I find that people much prefer this sort of...

    What's so special about Dragonlance?

I always loved the fact that wizardry is almost treated as a Masonic, elemental old boy's club and changes with the phases of the moon(s). Age of Mortals is awesome, too!

    For the Record

I honestly think that the minion idea was born from old school DnD, where you could wipe out a multitude of low level foes with Cone of Cold, Fireball and the like. Since they cleaned up the multiple dice mechanic, it seems like that they wanted to still allow players to cut through swaths of...

    For the Record

You know how to get around these sort of absurdities? Fluff-as-crunch. Zombies are the undead. They cannot be killed by conventional means. Players have to deal coupe de grace to each zombie to make certain it doesn't ressurect itself on a 5-6 recharge roll per round. Problem solved. ;)

    Defining Martial as Ki

"Ki" sounds far, far too Asiatic to be used as a core definition of martial characters. Martial seems fine; it's all semantics, anyhow!

Character Builder on a flash drive?

I am anxiously awaiting an iPod compatible app of the character builder. If WotC knows what's good for them... ;) Cheers, Daniel

D&D 4E Revised 4E Beholder Central Eye trademark power from old editions

I would like to start a series of posts addressing 'sacred cows" of old editions of Dungeons and Dragons and bring them full circle into 4th edition. One of the most perplexing changes was how they handled the zone of dead magic around the beholder in 4E. As a huge fan favorite, they gutted the...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

Adhering to the rules as presented within the PHB... Eagle Vision [Heroic tier] Prerequisite: Wis 13 Benefit: You ignore the -2 penalty to all defenses whenever a foe has combat advantage against you. Note that foes can still use sneak attacks and other forms of attack that require concealment...

    Numbers, numbers, and more numbers

I always ask for their final numbers. If they don't give the final number to me on the first go, they miss. It curbs the issue of managing player's sheets. I expect the players to know their powers and numbers; I don't have the time or patience to add and subtract for them. I also don't allow...

    PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

I'll be completely honest, I don't understand what direction WotC is taking 4E. I don't necessarily dislike it, but I don't really like it either. Every new race that is being released makes the game resemble old Talislanta. The Wilden is yet another odd addition to the bevy of strange races...

Forked: GTS - A need for "A robust system that handles things outside of combat"?

I think 4E would work better with non-combat encounters if they had integrated tables and the like into the DMG, instead of relegating it to the PHB. WotC, if you're listening - for DMG2 introduce some tables on how to handle social challenges! Optional rules, more robust NPC tables...

Difficulties using the dungeon tiles from Wizards of the Coast

I find them to be useful, yet a bit unwieldy due to the diminished sizes. I have personally purchased four sets of the last five releases. The price is very affordable, but it comes down to whether you as a DM or player want to justify spending that much. Personally, I'd rather use Dungeon...

Ideas for unusual or deadly cults wanted!

How about some low-magic alternative cults of normal folk? The Sons of the Carnahk This loose affiliation is comprised of "normal" folk from all walks of live; freefarmers, smallfolk, merchants of lower caliber, serfs, the destitute, whores, the lame and the poor. They're a self-named...
