Here They Are! Your 10 Most Anticipated TTRPGs For 2024!

Sure, but in total that is approximately 50,000 books (for all 3 systems). That would be about half the sales of the worst selling 5e D&D book.

Here They Are! Your 10 Most Anticipated TTRPGs For 2024!

I guess you could be correct. However, TotV, MCDM rpg, & shadowdark had about 50,000 backers combined. That is about 1/1000 of the D&D market (maybe). I am not sure that is much of a dent (at least yet).

But I don't think anyone is saying this. Some are saying D&D had / has all the support they need. But I don't think anyone is saying it provides all the support anyone could need. People are different and have different needs. Even the much more extensive combat rules are not enough some people...

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

This was the post I was talking about (that you didn't respond too): No it doesn't make sense. because I have pointed our rules in the book that you can use. If you don't use them, that is your choice. Listen. this argument has just gotten silly. It boils down to you not believing the...

OK, but if you don't respond to my posts what do I do? I don't want to be pushy.

So we don't use XP at all, does that mean we have no support for anything!?

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

I updated my previous post, but: freeform =/= no support. Just because you can do it freeform doesn't mean you have to do that way. They are not mutually exclusive. You can have both. As I mentioned we ran 4e combat freeform for an adventure. Does that mean 4e didn't support combat?

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

I have repeatedly told you it exist and even pointed to were it is in the books (for 5e at least). One can always choose to do it freeform, even if there is extensive support. In 4e we ditched powers and did it freeform for an adventure is it was pretty awesome being able to do something...

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

The discussion, as I see it, has been if things are supported or not. In fact, I noted from the start the support for combat is far greater. However, that doesn't mean there is no support for other playstyles and it doesn't mean the support provided isn't enough for some, while also being to...

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

OK, spoke to my DM and rather than go back to my previous post I will respond here. He was speaking specifically about 5e. My DM said skill checks are the basic resolution system, but that the DMG has several guidelines (aka rules - he doesn't like to call anything a rule) that cover different...

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

I'm not a DM, so I can't really tell you that. From my perspective I don't know why you would need rules for that. However, I will ask my partner (who is a DM) and get back to you. Also, which edition are you talking about - this was a general D&D post? I don't know if this is exactly what...

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

except D&D does have a resolution system that can be adapted to almost all styles of play: the ability check. Chess has no equivalent. Heck, D&D could get rid of the complex combat rules and just use ability checks. we ran some adventures like that in 4e and it works.

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

While I agree that D&D is geared for combat, there are definitely rules provided for other things. They are in both the PHB and DMG. It is just there are a lot more rules for combat.

D&D General Styles of D&D Play

It depends what you mean but "support," but you can definitely do all of those things in D&D. All you need is a basic resolution mechanic and everything can develop from that. Basically freeform as you said, but that is OK for many, if not most, people. With 5e's reliance on ability checks it...

    D&D 5E (2014) How about 5d20?

The point is to have a name for a system of games that use the 5e SRD, but are not WotC D&D. I personally find it useful to talk about a type of game (like OSR) that is based on 5e (and not D&D) and not have to reference every game system under that umbrella.

    D&D 5E (2014) How about 5d20?

How so - the point is to specifically associate it with the 5.X SRD. That is the purpose of the new term.
