D&D 5E (2014) Chris Perkins is polling settings on Twitter!

Dammit! Dark Sun! I want Dark Sun!

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

Oh I'm not saying there wasn't any displeasure. People hate change and having half-dragons as PCs certainly annoyed quite a few purists. But I doubt that there were players/DMs who would refuse to invest in a new D&D edition simply because a new race was playable along the rest. Having new...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

Are we really going to assume that the reason 4th failed was the fact that the Dragonborn and the Tieflings were 'mainstream'? And it wasn't about the rules, the combat, the focus on minis, the tactical aspect?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

Sorry. My first sentence of that paragraph was referring to the previous paragraph. My bad. All these are amazing and interesting ideas which will probably never be utilized as long as the Dragonborn are taboo'ed by the very company which created them. How will they (the Dragonborn) create a...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

You may be overestimating the author's ability to design modules the way they like ... I am a graphic artist - my job basically is about making magazine and book layout - essentially putting pretty pictures alongside the text of every single page. So I was working on an English-teaching book...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

Are the Shadar-kai available as a playable race in the PHB? Is the gunslinger available as a playable class in the PHB? I'm talking about using the stuff the game's *designers* have given the players in the *core* rulebook, not about 3rd party material or hypothetical classes and races pulled...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's too early. Still, I think the Tyranny of Dragons storyline had a good chance to have Dragonborn in it, and they totally missed it.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

And yet, the Drow which are presented as an exotic playable race have gotten FAR more attention in the 5th Edition than Gnomes, half-orcs and Dragonborn. Because, yeah, they're more popular (thanks to Salvatore). And as long as the Dragonborn are going to appear on D&D as a shoehorned...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

This isn't a debate at all; I'm just voicing my personal displeasure in the way the playable races are handled in the PHB. I don't really want to delve into the 'race X was playable at Xth edition, but it isn't playable here'. There are nine races in the 5th edition's PHB which were deemed...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

This. This so much. If the half-orcs, the Dragonborn and the rest of the 'exotics' are still viewed as non-canon variants of exceptional flavor yaddayaddayadda, they are *never* going to leave their mark on their game. In my opinion, WotC was so defensive against the backlash 4th edition got and...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

I am not saying that Dragonborn should be as common as humans in frequency and in numbers. That's like saying I want to see as many mind flayers as there are orcs in an adventure. BUT, having - for example - the 'orc' in the monster manual, and then seeing *every* published WotC adventure...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

So the Deep Gnome is supposed to exist in every world (because Monster Manual), but the regular gnome isn't (because 'true exotic')?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

It doesn't really work, imo. It really hurts suspension of disbelief when you create a half-orc character, and you never meet any other half-orcs in published adventures. Or even worse, when you play a gnome. Granted, Tieflings and Dragonborn shouldn't be all over the place (given their origins)...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

Dragonborn. Gnome. Half-Elf. Half-Orc. Tiefling. These are the races the Player's Handbook says they're truly exotic (and less known) that the vanilla / classic races. It gives them the necessary info for a player to create one, and they're hardly seen or heard of from that point on. I recently...

    D&D 5E (2014) Aboleth adventure for lvl 1-10 - my setup.

I thought about what Transtemporal said about railroading the PCs, and I thought it over. I decided that I'll have the town's ruler ask the PCs help in saving a VIP from the cult. When the PCs find the Cultists who have the VIP (boss fight), and when it looks they're about to win, one of the...

Hmm, you're right. And the adventure being called 'Terror from the Deep' doesn't help either. Yeah, I'll change the name, good call. Thanks!

    D&D 5E (2014) Aboleth adventure for lvl 1-10 - my setup.

The Deep One's Clerics could have poisoned Melora's clerics (or could just have killed them in a way which leaves no wounds), dress them up as clerics of their own faith (removing Melora's holy symbols and placing their own faith's) and THEN hack them, pierce them, bludgeon them apart, making...

    D&D 5E (2014) Aboleth adventure for lvl 1-10 - my setup.

TERROR FROM THE DEEP An Aboleth is freed by a Mind Flayer party and their Kuo-toa slaves. It seeks vengeance against Melora [Goddess of the Wilderness and the Sea] and her worshippers' descendants for imprisoning it ages ago. It begins to grow a cult of shrewd fanatics and plots a way to make...
