Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Business side? Well… "Until the legal differences between our partner WotC and 3PP Inc. are settled, we at One Book Shelf decided to stop selling 3PP products. Of course you can still download them from your library if previously purchased and I hope this isn't misconstrued as censorship…"

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

The "legally-distinct" part might be rather hard, though. Wouldn't it be easier to get an already D&D-esque system to open up? Not sure whether "Why didn't you sue them because they're too similar in the last 30 years?" has any legal merit… Dear Kevin Siembida…

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

If DT and itch play along with WotC, it's more a business matter than a legal one anyway.

We got an official leak of One D&D OGL 1.1! Watch Our Discussion And Reactions!

Legal inception: Is a there a copyright on a license, i.e. could people just create the Open Shmaming License, with the revocation clauses removed, so that previous licensor not tainted by D&D OGC could just move on?

We got an official leak of One D&D OGL 1.1! Watch Our Discussion And Reactions!

Hope that if that happens, some of the currently OGL-d non-D&D games switch to something better, like Fudge or OpenD6. Oh boy, could this get Chaosium complete control over BRP again?

Which Edition for a Megadungeon Campaign? Why?

I've always been reluctant to play with megadungeons, as I like my occasional change of scenery and city adventures. So I guess that my "MD" would have a lot of features of those. Cultural centers, probably merging several different locations into a big whole, or at least several strata (!=...

    D&D 5E (2014) Attribute progression

This is basically how The Dark Eye 2nd edition worked. Attributes started at d6+7 there, bonus progression was of course different. Hackmaster basically has AD&Ds strength percentiles for every game, and you could increase all of them bit by bit. Rolemaster had their weird "potential" stats...

D&D General Demihumans of Color and the Thermian Argument

Please, most D&D settings resemble the US more than they do medieval Europe, especially if the former includes Anaheim. The thin veneer of ren faire visuals shouldn't affect this too much. Never mind that those settings already tend to have both incredibly slow timelines (where it's been...

D&D General Demihumans of Color and the Thermian Argument

Yes, you can find reasons for everything, that's a core theme of this thread. The question is if you're constructing this yourself and have all the creative freedom, what's better for the player(s)? I can build something like this Caucasian in Peru, but I can also build something like modern-day...

D&D General Demihumans of Color and the Thermian Argument

Assuming that we have a representative range of skin color and other phenotypical features, how do you all feel about how common and integrated that should be? I mean, I think there's a difference between saying that your halfling can have an epicanthic fold, but that means they have to be from...

D&D General Reasons to prefer magical armor to more effective non-magical one

Leather Armor as a lightweight thief's motor jacket is about as non-sensical as studded leather, though. Speaking of armor realism, I had a version of this conundrum in a GURPS Ptolus game, where I used most of the "historic" armor rules and assumptions. This meant that rather recently...

D&D General Reasons to prefer magical armor to more effective non-magical one

What are some good reasons, house rules, fluff etc, to prefer e.g. a leather armor +1 to studded leather or even more protective ones? Or +1 scale from the dawn of the Orc Wars vis-a-vis that boring new fangled field plate just developed? (Beyond the regular encumbrance, check penalty or thief...

D&D General Demihumans of Color and the Thermian Argument

Sorry, I'm sure that's presented in a much better light at the table, but from here this sounds like the players are set up to fail and then reprimanded for not being deep enough into the lore. Where every PC is almonst inevitably a Drizzt (not even a Spock). Why would we write this in the...

D&D General Demihumans of Color and the Thermian Argument

The problem is that it's very hard to come up with a mindset that both separates them from human cultures, while still being able to play them. Or at least play them with a decent enough sense of immersion. Never mind that a lot of alien abilities often have some baggage of their own.

    What should I run next?

CoC d20 is a very underrated game, but I just can't get myself to love the '20s. So I voted Bushido.

    The opposite of OSR

Well, on the allegedly other side of things, there are also D&D groups where the "ruling" is often a table consensus, not DM fiat.
