D&D General What does D&D look like without Death on the Table?

Like a D&D campaign. As far as understand in most 5e campaigns death happens very infrequently. Far Trek has a rule that says if the PCs take damage that would kill them they simply fall unconscious. It works fine. As other posters have said, there are more interesting consequences of failure...

    Helmets: Under-Used but Over-Important

Love BW, though my usage of it has been limited to a short lived campaign and test runs on the sub systems. BW did teach me about the importance of having the PCs having goals to help drive the narrative, I wish more systems had that in the rules. It also taught me to Let It Ride!

D&D 5E (2014) What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

Yay! Yes. Maybe to evil, I'm not sure what you consider observable evil. Monsters, yes. No to the minds, as I don't worry about how they think or what they think, I only worry about what they do. If you mean humanoid monsters, no, as the only intelligent humanoids in my games are human...

    Helmets: Under-Used but Over-Important

I can't but agree that most TTRPGs don't care about helmets because they don't use hit locations. The use of hit locations and the way combat is modelled, especially how damage is dealt with is why I love Mythras so much. Finally a system where shields are one of the most important items you...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

Virtually Identical is NOT Identical. I would need proof of that. I disagree. Jimmy can play a human with an Elf hat, or Elf costume, or Elf disguise. Jimmy is still just Jimmy playing pretend with his friends. I know I like playing pretend with my friends, we just don't feel the need for...

    A Question Of Agency?

Many of the posts on the thread make me wish I could understand Blades In The Dark. I read it through a couple of times but it still makes me go, huh? 😞

D&D 5E (2014) What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

No. I can't. How could a "human mind" not be exclusively limited to humans? My African Grey Parrot does not have a "human mind" he has a "parrot mind" because he's a parrot. My mom's cat has a "cat mind" because she's a cat. Whilst I agree that my parrot talks (or more specifically is...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

Well that would be boring. Essentially, yes! Well constructed (or not depending on the work) BS as another poster alluded to, but BS none the less. It is by no means an account of something that actually happened or is actually real. Those books fall under non-fiction at my library. Agreed...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

Hahaha! You think fictional "persons" written by Humans are valid examples of real actual "persons" or are you making a funny?!? Or do you not understand what the word fictional means? Of course fictional characters written by Human minds have minds identical to Humans they were written by a...

    D&D General BBEGs shouldn't miss.

Absolutely nothing, apparently I replied to a reply that was neither meant for me nor based on something I posted, my bad!!!

    D&D General BBEGs shouldn't miss.

Well, the GM deciding what is supposed to be random invalidates the arrangement wherein the dice decides such things. I would feel as though this means the GM feels that they should have authority over me and my character that I didn't agree to give them. This, to me, would make me feel as...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

Meant no offense. I was just stating that it seems dumb, or silly, or strange, that one would disregard what the author themselves has said about their own work. As I said I am not a literature major so I don't understand how it all works. Just seems strange to say that what the author...
