    Old timers?

I've definitely been around since the early Morrus days, which I think were the early oughts. Used to read the original EN message boards but do not remember if I actually commented. Participated a bunch on the Necromancer game boards also, back in the day. Weirdly, my account says I only joined...

D&D General Stranger Things Image of a D&D Game

There was another store in that era that sold RPG stuff in NYC. It was called Forbidden Planet. It was excellent. I loved the chaos of Compleat Strategist, which seemed to have the most popular games crammed in the hardest to get to corners while putting really oddball war games—play the Soccer...

    D&D 5E (2014) Storm King's...CHULT!

We've been at this for quite some time. There were lots of the usual pandemic-related delays and real-life complications that prevented us from playing as often as we would have liked. But we're still going so I thought I'd give an update here. 1) The party learned that Artus Cimber was last...

D&D General Stranger Things Image of a D&D Game

One thing I just remembered. We didn't have a battlemat back in my late 1980s and early 1990s campaign. What we had was a huge piece of graph paper that we put beneath a piece of plastic that served as a wet-erase board. So we drew on that. It worked better than the battlemats I have now.

I just realized that belters are basically barbarians in The Expanse.

WotC Should I try Magic: The Gathering Forgotten Realms?

Awesome. Thanks. This sounds like exactly what I’m looking for since I’d like to be able to play with three or four of us.

WotC Should I try Magic: The Gathering Forgotten Realms?

I’ve been playing D&D since the 1980s but I’ve never played M:TG. Now I’ve got kids of my own and we play D&D together. I thought they might be into Magic: the Gathering but I am not sure where to start. Ideally, I’d like to start with the D&D flavored Forgotten Realms set. Is this a good idea...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Announces New Critical Role Hardcover Adventure

Ah. I got it. But isn’t that specifically not what the Curse of Strife is? The goblinkin aren’t inherently evil. They’re cursed by an evil god that deprives them of agency. They can be free of the curse.

D&D General No D&D World Loyalty: Still playing After 37 Years

I’m a huge grognard. I used to hunt down old issues of Dargon magazine for twenty year old updates on events in the world of Greyhawk. I ran a Greyhawk campaign for a decade or so that spanned from the late 1980s through the 1990s. We ran through Temple, Slavers, Giants through Demonweb, White...

    When Did Rome Fall?

I think it’s more useful to think of the question geographically. In some areas, Rome fell earlier than others. It was fallen by the 6th century in Britain, for instance, while it carried on elsewhere.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sea Voyage Advice?

It sort of depends on whether you plan to have things like ship to ship combat, pirate attacks, fun adventures at sea. I recently DM'd my PCs on a sea quest from Waterdeep to Chult. There were quite a few encounters on the way. The most memorable and fun encounter was with a group of goblins...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

I almost killed off a group of three eighth level characters with five ghasts and a mage. I had taken one of the mini adventurers from the AL adventure "City on Edge" and raised the enounters to be more in line with the group's level. The mage was on the other side a huge pit containing the...

Can you name a good fantasy TTRPG that's not D&D?

Yep. That's how we did it at my table. Alpha Complex was a city state devoted to a single deity who had lost its mind.

Can you name a good fantasy TTRPG that's not D&D?

In Paranoia, the world is run by an insane friend computer. The players are trouble shooters whose job it is to find subversives and mutants and kill them. But everyone is secretly a subversive mutant. So we turned this into fantasy role playing by having the computer be replaced by a god that...
