yeah, probably the most influential book in my life. It made tech cool -- at least in my mind.

    Show your game prep notes

How long are your sessions and do you find yourself using all 20 pages? What do they generally look like if you had to write an outline?

    Show your game prep notes

I always love to get down into the weeds into how we prep and run our games. So, show your real-world prep notes! No shaming! No criticism! Just us sharing what we put together to run our games. Here's my one-page prep notes for my game tonight! I have some Dyson maps I'm not showing but these...

Monty of Dungeon Dudes infuriated at publishers writing own licenses instead of CC – WOTC most permissive

I think there's a subtlty easily missed in these conversations which is what is released under an open license and what we wouldn't expect to be. A company's core fictional IP, I wouldn't expect that to be released under anything except maybe some type of community license that, I imagine, can...

People are doing that with orc too. Kobold Press locked some of their mechanics by not putting them under ORC but the license requires downstream creators release everything.

Monty of Dungeon Dudes infuriated at publishers writing own licenses instead of CC – WOTC most permissive

Speaking as a GM, I am far more likely to invest my time, money, energy, and creative pursuits around a system that has a license I know I can trust and trust to be around as long as I want it. I've used the hell out of A5E, bought quite a bit of A5e stuff, as have my players. And I've promoted...

I wanted his quote to stand on its own. The rest is just like my opinion man.

Monty of Dungeon Dudes infuriated at publishers writing own licenses instead of CC – WOTC most permissive

WOTC isn't the only one to release their material in the CC. Evil Hat, EN World Publishing, Jonathan Harper, Shawn Tompkin – lots of publishers, big and small, use the Creative Commons. This isn't a matter of who can afford it and who can't. I don't think there's any evidence that publishers who...

Monty of Dungeon Dudes infuriated at publishers writing own licenses instead of CC – WOTC most permissive

Monty Martin of Dungeon Dundes: "Whether or not we do conversions for other systems depends on a lot of variables. Audience size, cost, but also licensing are all issues. I am not enthusiastic about working under viral licenses (such as the ORC) or licenses which are subject to possible changes...

    Aging and Gaming

Yep. Early 50s here and lots of things are catching up. Eye glasses, sleep woes, and so on. I worry about cognitive decline both for running and playing RPGs and making useful RPG stuff for other people. The hard part is how to even know it's happening. Are we good at knowing our own cognitive...

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

I've done this in my games. Some bosses get one or two doom points (I call them "dreadful blessings" in my game and they're usually tied into the story like having the Blessing of the Nameless King or the Blessings of Ibbalan). Bigger bosses at higher levels get more. I wing the amount but once...

D&D General Prep is Not Play. . . Or is it?

I have so many thoughts about this idea. I think it's dead on that there are actually several hobbies bound up in TTRPG prep and play. Miniature collection. Terrain construction and painting. Drawing. Mapping. And so on. All of it can be great. One of my favorite bits of prep-play is just...

    Any experiences with Let's Quest?

Does anyone have experience working with Let's Quest – the organization that supports after-school and library RPG programs? https://www.letsquestafterschool.org I'm looking for feedback from those who may have benefitted from their service but any feedback is good.
