D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

I didn't call them a thief here. I said we should know what's going on and then make our own judgements. We just don't get to ignore the costs. Now if Sam Bankman Fried ... sorry, Sam Altman (so easy to get confused...), was to show up at Gencon and I wouldn't get shot by his bodyguards, you...

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

Clearly your mind is made up but on this last point, Napster and Limewire and Pirates Bay didn't become $160 billion dollar companies in two years. If this was all just people in their garages making LLMs, that'd be one thing. But huge entrenched companies are becoming huger and more entrenched...

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

First, services like this are really good deals for their users. Free or cheap access to LLMs that cost the companies billions of dollars to run. OpenAI is valued at 160 billion dollars but taking an estimated 5 billion dollar loss because of how expensive it is to run (I moved this out of the...

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

My point is that it isn't free. OpenAI got 20 billion from Microsoft and another valuation for another 6 billion. Huge companies are throwing huge cash at AI and none of it is making it back to the creators who made the material it trained off of it and those generative AI models would be...

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

You can go to the article I linked and find links for all the stuff, including a Chat GPT query using up a bottle of water.

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

I wrote an article to be published Monday on Sly Flourish (but you can get a sneak preview right here) talking about generative AI and our RPGs. And plan to talk about it on my show. To summarize, I think its worth remembering the cost of generative AI systems: The use tons of power and...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

Wow that’s subtle but it sure is!

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

I don’t think the 2024 D&D PH actually says how to use old subclasses, does it? Did I miss it?

D&D 5E (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

My main worry is that all the new options are going to slow down combat. Just about everything else I can fix on the DM side of things.

D&D General Of Consent, Session 0 and Hard Decisions.

I'm not sure I understand the concept of a player-driven consent form either but I do use safety tools and found they work well – not even for really hard topics but just stuff people want to avoid. I have basically two that I use. Instead of an X card, we use "pause for a minute" from script...

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

Regarding AI use by players and DMs, I ran a poll. Yes, I know, survey bias, but it's better than Chris Cocks's 30 imaginary friends. Here were the results: Also, Wolfgang Baur at Kobold Press had this to say:

D&D General Starter vs Essentials vs Stormwreck Isle

I think Dragons of Stormwreck Isle is a fine adventure. I loved it when I ran it. It’s also the only starter adventure that doesn’t throw way overbalanced encounter at the characters at first level.

Thank you! I think you’ll love Ruins of the Grendleroot. I’m really proud of it.

Astarion From Baldur's Gate 3 Appears in the 2024 Player's Handbook

That art reminds me a lot of Father Callahan destroying the vampires in one of Stephen King's Dark Tower books. What a crazy series that was.
