    D&D 5E (2024) Predictions for the 2024 DMG?

I haven't done any work for WOTC in a long time. I did work for Kobold Press for both the Monster Vault and the Gamemaster's Guide. I also have a monster in the upcoming Monstrous Menagerie 2! And, of course, the work Scott Gray, Teos Abadia, and I did in Forge of Foes!

2024 Player's Handbook Officially Live on D&D Beyond

Hopefully WOTC puts out a PDF of their errata. My sacrilegious recommendation is to take a sharpie and put a little dot next to rules in the PHB they've errata'd so you know which ones to look up in your printed errata sheet. That worked for me in the 4e days. Mark up your books! Make them...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

This was really apparent to me recently when I went to a local convention and played Dragonbane, Blade Runner, D&D 2014, Shadowdark, and Pirate Borg in like a 48 hour period. When one squints, they're basically the same sort of thing. A GM spells out a situation and the players navigate it with...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Not to say "here's another system" but have you looked at 13th age at all? It's superheroic fantasy without all the inventory tracking and some big powerhouse combat but it's fast and has some good storytelling elements to it. There may be another reason it's not a good fit but I thought I'd...

    D&D 5E (2024) Creature Stat Blocks in 2024 Player's Handbook

I agree. I hate the new ability score block. 18 numbers when six will do. I love how TOV does it with just a single bonus for each ability. If they're proficient, they get a big bonus.

Tales of the Valiant vs. 5e: How different?

I like to think of 5e as an open platform for lots of RPGs, including D&D 2014, D&D 2024, Tales of the Valiant, A5e, Esper Genesis, Broken Weave, and others so, from that perspective, Tales of the Valiant is 5e. But I presume you're comparing it to either D&D 2014 or D&D 2024. Full disclaimer...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Sorry. You completely lost me. If you’re saying 5e became an independent platform before A5E and ToV, I can get behind that.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

“Compatible” core books. Of course, I don’t know if you mean Tales of the Valiant it references the 5.1 SRD under its cc license. You can do that as long as it’s a CC BY 4.0. See the second line on the title page of the link you put up.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

The OGL thing mattered because they tried to take back the open 5e platform and make it just D&D again. Thats why Morrus went through the trouble to make another open disconnected 5e SRD — the A5E SRD. Now we have two 5e SRDs (and the A5E one is vastly superior btw). Black Flag was going to be...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Why not call it D&D? Or D&D 2014 or D&D 2024 as WOTC calls it?

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Right. Nothing is 5e except 5e as a platform of generally compatible rules. Tales of the Valiant is compatible with 5e. A5E is compatible with 5e. D&D 2014 is compatible with 5e (and is also the root of the 5e ruleset), and D&D 2024 is compatible with 5e. But D&D isn’t 5e. We need not think of...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Right. I don't think it takes anything away from them either. They don't call their stuff 5e. They call it D&D because they own that brand. D&D as a brand is so much more valuable than "5e" is for them. I think they're also doing some great things for the RPG hobby and the 5e hobby: SRDs in...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Because we can recognize the incredible breadth and diversity of 5e products published from hundreds of publishers. We can mix and mash up the best ideas for the game we want to run. We don't have to hope a single company goes the direction we want them to go – we can take ideas from lots of...
