2024 has gone back to Tieflings are Fiend mixed with something else. While not explicitly stated, the Iconic Bard in the art is a Tiefling of Elven ancestry who's possibly related to the Iconic Elven Sorcerer, while the Celestial Warlock art depicts an Aasimar of Dwarven ancestry.

3.5e Tome of Magic had some interesting concepts but generally failed mechanically for the Truenamer. I was thinking more about the 2e Tome of Magic, which had some new spells and I guess what you could say were subclasses in 2e with the introduction of Wild Magic and Elemental schools of magic.

There's precedence for Greys as a PC species, they did have D&D PC stats for the Fraal in 2e in something like a Dragon Magazine article to coincide with the release of Alternity. So the Fraal could be written as a PC species in 5e. Other species from Alternity could be brought over too.

And for PHB spells that could be Psion spells I think they should have Yolande's Regal Presence and Thunderclap (as Stomp was a Psionic power), even though the Thunderclap is not a cantrip I'd recommend for anyone but a Valor Bard or Eldritch Knight.
