Help. I've lost confidence as a GM.

General advice in this type of situation: Dial it back, keep it simple. Try to find a game and scenario you are really confident in and focus on making it the best experience possible for yourself and your players. Running indie games on conventions and running new types of games (microscope is...

[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

Puh. Good thing MM does not always get his way. This is awful. Clunky, fiddly and requires a declaration phase. What would be the order of declaration anyway? Pretty big advantage knowing what the enemy is doing before you declare your action. Bleh.

D&D 5E (2014) How to deal with Metagaming as a player?

I am sure the group where really happy to have you there, acting like that during their games and really showing them all the badwrongfun they had been having all those years!

D&D 5E (2014) The classes that nobody wants to play

In my circles monks are not really played, probably because kungfu-chop-chop against dragons and stone giants feels pretty silly and slapstick (not bashing monk lovers in sny way, just speculating in cause)?

How important is game balance to you?

I find this poll very biased. It basically asks "do you want balance _or_ fun?". In my opinion lack of balance does not add to the fun of the gaming experience. Nor does the fact that available options are reasonably well-balanced in any way deduct from the "fun and flavour" of a game.

Seeking an impactful way to reveal the BBEG in hiding...

I have one more twist to add to the "escort the criminals" idea above (which is excellent btw): The reason that the PC's are working for the lich-judge is that they were wrongfully conviced to long sentences but the lich-judge released them under the condition that they assist him i these simple...

    Anyone still interested in Shadowrun?

The thing with SR 5e rules is that for most part they _actually_ work :) They are crazy, but they do work and have their own internal logic that does sorta make sense once you get used to it. I have ran a bunch of games in SR5 and once you let go of your initial fear of the daunting system and...

    Anyone still interested in Shadowrun?

There are tons of interested players, but very few willing DMs for Shadowrun. Put a game up on roll20 and it will fill within hours.

    D&D 5E (2014) MENDING spell in DARKSUN???

Yes I would. Repairing broken gear is part of the fun as well.

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

The torture (and its not just "borderline"...) is one aspect of it. But even if the player characters refrain from torture it is generally a very dull and sullen experience. Much like interrogations in real life. It is just a painfulloy slow way to move a story ahead that adds very little value...

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

My pet peeve is interrogations. 9/10 of my worst roleplaying experiences has been associated with interrogations. I go to great length to avoid them as player and DM.

D&D 5E (2014) Warlocks and Hex and the "daily morning short rest"

Hex is a bonus action to cast anyway. I simply cannot understand whh on earth you would go through all the bag of rats nonsense to conserve one bonus action.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Rogues Should Not Use a Bow

Depends mostly on DM preferences as illustrated by the almost 100 page discussion on this forum. I am not getting into any discussion about right or wrong here, just stating that if hiding and re-hiding is allowed the ranged rogue more or less catches up with melee rogues in combat efficiency.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Rogues Should Not Use a Bow

If your DM allows you to hide every turn with cunning action the light/hand crossbow rogue works very well. If not then you only option to maintain decent damage output past level 5 is melee and dual wielding.

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help! My rogue always spams Hide as a bonus action, and i cant target him!

I wonder if wizards will ever get around to making an unambiguous statement on how stealth is supposed to work. It has a pretty significant impact on how effective combatants rogues are in organized play

The Origins of the RPG Crate

Ever been tempted to forbid something for a silly reason?

There are no silly reasons for banning kender. Any reason is perfectly valid.

    D&D 5E (2014) Cyberpunk for 5E rules preview (NeuroSpasta)

Etymonlogy aside I will probably get this product, but I wont tell my players the name. The snickering would NEVER stop. I seriously think you should take another spin at the name: It is quit silly sounding, which is probably not what you wanted for a dark and egdy cyberpunk game.
