Spells: 10th level and higher, a proposal

Just to be clear, I hated the 1st Ed. (and 2nd Ed.) Wish. I was playing my 3rd game ever. Player A pissed off Player B. I watched in horror as the GM allowed the following wish to go through. "I wish that Player A's head is now up his ***. Oh, that's physiologically impossible, so Player A...

Spells: 10th level and higher, a proposal

By and large, I am fine with your examples, except for Advanced Wish. Yes, I don't like the Wish spell, and obviously by extension, the Advanced Wish. My prejudice stems from 1st Ed. AD&D and the absolute disaster the spell was back then. As heavily defined and restricted as it is today, I...

What is wrong with race class limits?

I certainly would. So did an entire game system. Fingolfin vs. Morgoth?

    Its official!

I'm waiting to see what the 2007 April Fools joke will be.

So what is your favorite module, ever?

DnD (Any Ed.) My Favorites: A1-4, G1-3, D1-3, Q1 (Later partially collected as GDQ1-7: Queen of the Spiders.) A1: Slave Pits of the Undercity A2: Secret of the Slavers Stockade A3: Against the Slave Lords A4: In the Dungeons of the Slave Lords G1: The Steading of the Hill Giant Chief G2...

What is wrong with race class limits?

My Version: Level limits were one of the most irritating rules of 1st Ed. AD&D. I house-ruled them out of existence almost immediately. Why were they irritating to me? There was no logical reason for them to exist. (If elves will live for 2000 years, then guess what, they really are going...

Flanking: question about a special case

You know, I was thinking much the same thing reading this topic up to this point. Being surrounded? Closing one's eyes being an advantage during this time under the RAW? Definitely not a good idea. ----------------- I suppose the question is whether an invisible combatant threatens, and...

How to counteract a Disintegrate-happy PC?

The PC is really casting Disintegrate a lot, then? Hmm, what hasn't already been mentioned? ----------------------------------- Option #1 Each one requires a lodestone to cast. With so many getting used up, specify that the supply drops, the price goes up, and that Eschew Materials stops...

    Finding that darn guild

    Well, I was just speculating on insufficient information. My first DMing was when I was 11 . . . and . . . ouch . . . it wasn't pretty.

    Finding that darn guild

A DM should not be saying this in the first place unless it is a joke. Unless your group has an acknowledged no-take-backs rule, where everything that is said is what happens, then no one should be a hard case about it. As for what the DM actually did, welcome to being disliked by a DM. The...

Can the Magnificent Mansion be dispelled?

That depends on whether the phrase "conditions in the outside world" is referring to game conditions, or is just a phrase in general. If the first, then you're right. If the second, then I'm right. I don't know the answer, but I believe the second to be true. Why? Because I don't believe it...

Epic spellcasting: Is it really feasible?

A number of the spells in the listsings of the ELH are exactly that type of spell (Momento Mori, Ruin, etc.). Perhaps we really need a more extensive list of examples. ---------------------------------------- I don't know, though. I have an knee-jerk negative reaction to all mechanics...

Does Exceptional Deflection count against Magic Missiles?

Yes, I was reading the feat incorrectly. You didn't see that. I'm not the droid you're looking for. ----------------- But Magic Missile still wouldn't be affected.

Does Exceptional Deflection count against Magic Missiles?

The feat was linked at the beginning of this topic, so no, I'm not thinking about another rule. I'm thinking about exactly the description given. No spell I can think of, off-hand, fits into this description. I am sure that in the many, many thousands of spells that have ever been invented...

Can the Magnificent Mansion be dispelled?

Except that the description of the spell specifically says it is not affected by conditions in the outside world. A Dispel Magic cast on the Prime Material is in the "outside world". The door is a part of the spell/mansion, a part of the extradimensional space, and so it is not affected. The...

Epic spellcasting: Is it really feasible?

10th level spells! Oh no! Cats and dogs living together! The universe will end! We can't have it, because it would be a good idea for those campaigns that wished to include those rules. Too many people are stuck on the idea that, "Oh, oh! But Wish is already 9th level, and we can't have...

Does Exceptional Deflection count against Magic Missiles?

What are you referring to with the pronoun "it" in this case? The description of Exceptional Defelection? It doesn't say anything about affecting spells. In fact, its description effectively excludes all spells that aren't "ranged weapons". The vast majority of spells are not ranged weapons...

Does Exceptional Deflection count against Magic Missiles?

No. The definition of ranged attack is what it is. It is not changed anywhere as a result of Exceptional Deflection. The capability of Exceptional Deflection flows from the definition of ranged attack, the definition of ranged attack does not alter itself for Exceptional Deflection.

Can the Magnificent Mansion be dispelled?

Except that Dispel Magic can't actually hit/effect something that isn't in the same dimension as the spellcaster.
