It’s LAUNCH DAY For The Pathfinder 2 Playtest!

Pathfinder GM here. To add some perspective, there are people on the Paizo boards complaining that "if they wanted to play 5th edition D&D, they would've play 5th edition D&D." Ha! I would say that the jump from 2E to 3E of adding order to a bunch of ad hoc systems and the uniform d20 mechanic...

Pathfinder 2E A Few Images From Erik Mona's Pathfinder 2nd Edition Presentation At GAMA

I am curious - what does "Math balanced across all 20 levels of play" mean? I believe this was part of the initial presentation for D&D 4e. My take is that it is to prevent near-automatic successes and failures. I don't know how this is accomplished without some flattening of the math, however.

    When Dragons Play Dungeons

@dave2008 I agree that the guards might find it to be a positive thing, to have D&D occupy and entertain prisoners. The prison system as it is set up, however, is very much focused on pitting prisoners and guards against each other, and groups of prisoners against each other, to maintain...

No WotC At Gen Con This Year?

I'm not fully convinced this isn't a bad idea... WotC isn't exactly small; they have Magic the Gathering don't they? And don't companies prioritize GenCon to create launch products and create buzz for future products?

D&D's Lead Increases; Stars Without Number Surges In Latest Orr Group Report

Aggregating the data for 3.5e, 5e, and Pathfinder, comparing since D&D 5e took the top spot: (Note: I think the player sample size in Q1 might have been a typo, since it looks like usage of Roll20 increased over 2015.) ===== 2015 Q1 ===== Game sample size 36,514 Player sample size 74,094 1...

D&D Goes to Work Part II: Professional Game Masters

One can say I'm a professional GM. I get paid to teach a middle-school afterschool program that plays Pathfinder RPG, and parents also pay me to GM their kids on the weekends, $30 for a five-hour session for each kid. It is a relatively affluent community (Google Pathfinders' Guild of Berkeley...

[UPDATED] RAGE OF DEMONS! New D&D Storyline Features Drizzt, Underdark, & Demon Lords!

"it will be up to you to aid in his fight against the demons before he succumbs to his darker temptations." I agree with a commenter several pages ago that there is a possibility of facing Drizzt himself. (And get his swords!) Also, if WotC is thinking bigger than the tabletop D&D game (which...

    D&D Starter Set at Walmart

Dude the display is all wrong. The box art needs to be showing. Ideally this would have its own stand up display or something but the manager should know enough to stack it so that the artwork is showing.

    [UPDATED] Pathfinder Unchained Contents Spoilers

I would just add that the book explicitly suggests that you can get rid of WBL by giving characters innate bonuses as if they were 2 levels higher on the chart. In such a system, even utility magic items would not be presumed and magic items are considered exceedingly rare.

WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

This is an interview with Forbes magazine. Isn't his audience here potential investors and potential "partners"? Keep in mind that 80% of this is spin and that you can't take it all at face value. He's speaking to the suits, not to gamers.

Fantasy Flight Games is Doing Very Well, Thank You!

The uneven spacing of the horizontal bars actually suggests that the Y axis is not evenly distributed. I don't deny that their sales are increasing; I do think this graph is visually deceiving, however.

New Cooperative D&D Video Game Allows a DM To Run The Adventure

Well I did read that he "directed" it... :) . I figured it was useful to nail down the exact title to make sure it wasn't misleading. One would think they'd front-load that info more in the text, given that game's overall good reputation.

New Cooperative D&D Video Game Allows a DM To Run The Adventure

My Google-fu shows Dan Tudge as the game director and executive producer of Dragon Age: Origins. Sounds promising.

New Cooperative D&D Video Game Allows a DM To Run The Adventure

Let's obsess about the screenshots now, shall we? :) I'm most intrigued by the buttons on the bottom of the screen. They both seem to be spellcasters, but the interface reminds me of the "cool down" buttons prevalent in Diablo 3, Dragon Age, etc. I wonder how that squares with D&D 5e's...
