    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

Maybe pick and choose specific magical items, or only do that for wonderous items or particularly powerful ones? Artifacts tend to have this built in more than wonderous items for obvious reasons--artifacts are literally deus ex machina.

    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

Self-plug away! This is the thread for it if it is low-magic! I especially love alternate rule sets and details! Off to DTRPG to DL it! Edit: Just a quick glance and I'm pretty impressed--this is going to be a fun book to pore through, and there's so much there I can't believe I just got it for...

    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

What do you think about the concept of magical items, especially wonderous items, or things like rings and staves in particular, having histories that the characters must unravel as part of learning their functions? I always wanted to set something up where magical items weren't just randomly...

    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

My collection of physical copies is much smaller. I love my Masterwork Maps books, and the Ultimate Game Designer's Companion is a must in any collection--so much goodness in there for low-magic campaigns, including rules for much more lethal combat.

One of these days, we should compare titles. You gave me a lot of good suggestions in this thread alone!

    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

I just loaded up on DTRPG. Got 43 items for $7.48. lmao #Winning A few I had to wait on as I'm flat broke, but these are going right into my 40GB folder of RPG books. I need to expand that to at least double it's current size...lol

Even the PDF is $35 for this one. Ouch! Don't suppose you know where I might get it a bit cheaper...?

    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

So glad to know I'm not the only one! My world actually came about as a result of an issue or two of Dragon magazine where they talked about "sheen" mages who used machines in their spell casting, and how machines would try to colonize and fight back. Low-magic just fit right in, and thus, Atlán...

    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

All great stuff. Didn't Dark Sun have a system for fatigue for spellcasters as well? I seem to recall something to that effect. In the game world I'm designing, I'm leaning towards there being hedgewizards, and those who are officially sanctioned by the High Council (a powerful wizardry guild)...

    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

I would love to incorporate a reputation system with things like that into the game, so that just might be the ticket. Could probably add "Magic User" to that list with a large modifier (+2 or +3) as they would stand out in a low-magic campaign, though not necessarily for bad reasons

I'm looking at it now, and that's a great system to implement as well. I can't find an online copy and I don't want to post sketchy links, but it can be searched and found as a sample PDF. Great stuff. Don't suppose you have a link to a copy? That's one of the few I don't actually have (and now...

Well, if magic is rare, it probably should be costly, too. Plus, this would replace the generic "mage shop" idea with something much more specific where magical items aren't sold, but various components would be available, from the common (mastercrafted inks and parchment) to the rare (dragon...

Would I be wrong in saying that alchemical reagents should be the rule, not the exception? Like, not using them would be more rare and usually only done in desperation? Seems that would make for a more interesting story if characters have to carry dangerous substances to cast spells. Like...

    D&D 3.x 3.5e/PF/OGL Low-Magic Campaign Resources and Ideas

So, at the suggestion of @rabindranath72, I figured I'd make a sort of repository thread specifically for posting ideas and resources to use from the 3.5e/PF/OGL material to run low-magic campaigns. Basically, trying to catch lightning in a bottle where magic is special and rare to give...

    D&D 3.x The 4E We Didnt Get.

Maybe we should make a thread for low-magic options and resources for 3.5e. That way, we could list all the different options and/or possibilities for alternative rules. What did PF have for "explicit guidelines" for low-magic campaigns as Rabindranath mentioned above?

    D&D 3.x The 4E We Didnt Get.

Are there any suggestios from PF and the 3.5e you would suggest for creating a low-magic world? I haven't yet perused the PF books I dl'd, but if there's any specific suggestions for low-magic campaigns, I'm all ears. Another question: is there any forum threads specifically for adapting those...

    D&D 3.x The 4E We Didnt Get.

The everlasting pursuit of gaming glory. Of all the editions, I think 3.5e came closest to perfection specifically because of its verisimilitude and sheer number of alternative rule sets that fit within its OGL framework. For the detail oriented, it was capable of being expanded. For those who...
