    D&D 5E (2014) Languages

I haven't run FR in a while, but I used to use a mixture, I suppose. The regional languages were a thing that the players could use, but almost never did, except one time when one of my players made a monk from Shou who didn't speak Common at all. That was fun. That actually led to my setting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do you play on a grid?

I use minis and grids, because my player's prefer it. I find it helps make things a little clearer, however, so it'd be my choice as well. I got the Pathfinder paper minis for Christmas last year, so it works out; the players usually buy their own minis for their characters.

    D&D 5E (2014) 3pp Campaign Settings

Frog God Games has been getting my minuscule spending money for about a year now...my upcoming Sword of Air + Stoneheart Valley campaign starts week after next (ohmygodwhatwasIthinking). The reason, though, is that all their campaigns and the majority of their previous incarnation's books and...

    D&D 5E (2014) A player's responsibility with regard to the rules

For me, I'll give a new player a few weeks to get acquainted with the character and the rules, for at least his character. If, after about a month, you still don't know what the features of your class do, I might take you aside privately and let you know to read the books, take notes if you need...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you want in a published adventure? / Adventure design best practices?

I used a variation of the Sin + Virtue points in my Runelords 5e campaign; was pretty fun, actually. The players actually had to question their own actions a lot. In the end, the only person who didn't have Sin points was the Monk. I'm doing Clue Cards for my upcoming campaign, as it's a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mearls on other settings

I'd buy a Dark Sun setting guide + short 1-5 adventure in a heartbeat...not so much the other settings, however. I have fond memories of Dark Sun, not so much the other settings, so I'd only be buying it for nostalgia value. My current players wouldn't like Dark Sun; two of them would kill to...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you want in a published adventure? / Adventure design best practices?

Sandboxes that have an overarching plot that makes sense.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll: Is it rude for a sidelined player to leave the session?

I would say if the DM is bad enough to let a player sit inactive for a long period of time, then no, not at all. If, however, they have to sit for 5-10 minutes before, say, the focus turns back to the other half of the party in our hypothetical split, then yes, absolutely. In other words, it...

D&D 5E (2014) No New Races in Xanathar Guide to Everithing

While they won't be in Xanathar's Guide to Everything, I remember reading that Tortles will be in one of the AL PDFs as a player race for Season 7.

Campaign structure: combining the sandbox and adventure path

This is, in a way, how I run all my campaigns. Generally, they'll be sized differently, but they all follow the same idea. That idea is: 1. The party has some sort of Hook to draw them into adventuring in general. As part of my planning, I make a general "Hook", something that starts off the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Fumbles a core rule?

I wanted to use critical fumbles, but my players voted against it...at least I still get to use Lingering Injuries, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Items You'll Never Give Out

Weapon of warning got cut entirely, as did the helm of comprehend languages (linguistics is a big thing in my campaign, so screw uncommon items that ignore that hurdle); I also made the items that grant flight at low rarity a higher rarity, or removed them entirely. On the one hand, I like...

D&D 5E (2014) What sorts of things are you working on? (3PP or personal use homebrew)?

The question is will I die of anticipation first...

D&D 5E (2014) What sorts of things are you working on? (3PP or personal use homebrew)?

You are familiar with me, yes. Just look for Knem Koth stuff. I tend to stay away from Rappan Athuk, because I only have a couple players that would enjoy it; the others would think it'd get a little samey (saying this as having never read it before, however, so I reserve judgement until I get...

D&D 5E (2014) What sorts of things are you working on? (3PP or personal use homebrew)?

No, not Rappan Athuk, although I'd enjoy it if I could afford it. Currently, I'm combining Stoneheart Valley and Sword of Air into one mega-campaign. I have plans, when money allows, of getting Lost City of Barakus and Cults of the Sundered Kingdoms next for conversion, then three of the old...

D&D 5E (2014) What sorts of things are you working on? (3PP or personal use homebrew)?

I am currently converting to 5e several rather large campaigns previously published by Frog God Games and Necromancer Games...it's a lot of work, but I love this setting.

Unearthed Arcana Your current use of Unearthed Arcana material

I allow UA on a case-by-case basis, with a few exceptions, namely the last Ranger rewrite, which is just better in every way.

My copy of OLD is here and it's gorgeous!

The hardcovers are on my list to buy! Eventually! Someday! Now, we need some long adventures and some sandboxy adventure paths (besides To Slay a Dragon, as I've played that already).

D&D 5E (2014) What do we want? Grognardhawk! When do we want it? Mearls!

I about spewed coffee on my computer, you bastards. I would like to see an update of Greyhawk for 5e. But...I'm not sure I'd trust anyone to do it justice in the right way.
