D&D 5E (2014) How do players know they are in the "wrong" location in a sandbox campaign?

Oh, they work fine! It's just not for everyone and every player and DM. I've known some that prefer the exact opposite. The thing about sandbox is that its intended, I feel, to make Player Agency the most important thing--Player Agency includes, however, those players accepting the consequences...

D&D 5E (2014) Does Dispel Magic work on Banishment?

I'd let my players use dispel magic on the concentrating caster, but otherwise, no.

D&D 5E (2014) Pictures of the Role Playing Games bookshelves at Barnes & Noble

God I miss working at a book store... The Books-A-Million I used to work at stocked all the 5e books; we'd usually get about 6 each time they released one, and they had a huge amount of PF stuff, and a bit of 4e and 3.5 stuff. We even sold Chessex dice. It was crazy.

    D&D 5E (2014) Proposed Fix for Whack-a-Mole Healing

Here's what I do: 1. Death saves failures do not go away until a character takes a long rest. 2. A character does not regain their hit points after a long rest. Instead, they can spend any hit dice they have remaining to heal after they take a long rest, and then regain half their remaining...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls interview - states that they may be getting off of the 2 AP/year train.

As long as the "Tier" APs are connected enough to be run as one adventure, I'm fine with this. I don't run those adventures, but I do have most of them (except the first, because blegh), and I ran Princes of the Apocalypse mostly because I love Richard Baker's writing and the sandbox nature is...

I spy what can only be described as an INDEX!

Yeah, I'm kind of excited about this. Can't wait to be able to get the PDF, even if I doubt I'll get the chance to run anything with it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Clerics and GFB/BB

Arcana Cleric actually is very nice for a gish-type character, using those cantrips, especially since the Potent Cantrip ability applies to it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Your one hope for D&D?

Check out Lost Lands by Frog God Games. It's a pretty dark, gritty setting. Well, at least how I run it, anyway.

    D&D 5E (2014) Your one hope for D&D?

I treat magic items like a black market art economy. Sure, you can try to find someone looking to sell a +1 greatsword...but you might not like who is selling it, or their price. It also varies a lot based on location, with the bigger the city being more beneficial to you finding what it is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your one hope for D&D?

I'd enjoy that, too. I mean, yeah, it's super-easy to tweak a monster, but to have something to do it for me would also be useful.

D&D 5E (2014) The Dangers of Overreliance on Leomund's Tiny Hut (3rd Level Spell)

I would giggle with Machiavellian glee if my players decided to use this spell in a dungeon they hadn't completed yet. My answer would be, "Sure!" *evil toothy grin* It helps that 90% of my dungeons have wandering monster tables, with the occasional smart monster or NPC running it. On the other...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your one hope for D&D?

I changed it up so that you don't get HP back after a long rest; you have to spend hit dice, just as you would during a short rest. It makes combat downright terrifying, sometimes. If I had one wish....hm. That's hard. I don't run FR, or any of the other official settings, so that's out for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone played a cleric/wizard or similar multiclass?

My wife played a Bard/Wizard multiclass, that was interesting. It wasn't very effective, but it brought a lot of versatility.

RPG Crowdfunding News 040: Shadow of the Demon Lord Freeport Companion, Satanic Panic, Elder Dice, F

The Perilous Vistas are great books for lore, but if you're a 5e DM (like me) you'll have to convert the adventures (not very hard, really) or wait/hope that they come out with Quests of Doom (which they probably will, as they've done that for every other Perilous Vista book) that'll have 5e...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

This is how I feel, in a nutshell. I never liked the ability to use a different ability to hit things other than Dex/Str. Bothers me. My wife disagrees with me, however. Rather vehemently, actually.

D&D 5E (2014) Lost City of Barakus: Campaign Discussion and Advice

Sandbox. It is, at its heart, a classic sandbox. I'll preface this with the knowledge that I have the S&W version, given to me by a friend for my birthday, along with two other books of theirs (Sword of Air, Stoneheart Valley; FGG is, by far, my favorite 3rd party publisher, I recently bought...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mystic Speculation

What does Uncle always say? Magic must defeat magic! I really do want to play that someday. Maybe make my own arcane monk subclass.... In truth, I don't expect anything outside of FR, which makes Kara-Tur more likely than, say, Eberron or Dark Sun. I'd also prefer a...
