D&D 5E (2014) XP tracking vs. story progresion leveling, an observation

I used milestone in 4e, and tried it in 5e...didn't like it, though; it felt...cheap? It was odd. Now, I use XP--but I also give XP for a lot of things besides killing monsters; it's completing quests, completing in-character goals, etc. I'm also one of those DMs that keep track of where the...

D&D 5E (2014) Parts of the game that get a lot of hate but you love

Alignment. Concentration. Encumbrance. Slow release schedule.

D&D 5E (2014) Classes with resources feel like usage is too restrained

This is the proper way of thinking, IMO. However, I don't think the "just add more encounter" advice has been debunked. Given that this is solely an anecdote, my groups over the last two years have shown that if you get the adventuring day right as a DM, things work as intended. Getting that...

D&D 5E (2014) Seriously, why no setting support?

Well, I'd take the survey results with the knowledge that they're not going to release books that quickly--intentionally so. My gut feeling is that Eberron would be next, at some point towards the end of next year; I'd not be surprised to see a bit of it come up in the Unearthed Arcana articles...

Listen to the full Gamehole Con Panel from WotC's Mearls, Perkins, and Crawford

I like the subclasses, personally; makes me wonder what the cleric domains coming out will be like (should be next week, since they seem to be going alphabetically).

Did they, by any chance, mention what the next few UAs are going to be?

    ZEITGEIST ZEITGEIST 5E

....so, my brain forgot about that. This is what happens when I write settings. My reading comprehension drops. That means, of course, that En5ider will have the full conversion for Zeitgeist. Whelp. Guess I'm getting that. Will it be a full conversion, i.e. everything needed will be in that...

    ZEITGEIST ZEITGEIST 5E

To my love of the setting and campaign, yes. To everything else, no. But, I still want it, so, if/when it's done, it might be something to save up for...I might have to violate my "always sandbox" rule for this one.

    ZEITGEIST ZEITGEIST 5E

.......gosh darnit. I have so many others things to buy. I'm waiting on 3-4 Kickstarters from Frog God Games, OLD hardcover (which i want quite badly), new gaming rig, new car for my wife...gah.

UA to Become Weekly! Pendleton Ward Helped On New AP!

The latest Ranger Playtest only needs a couple tweaks, then it's pretty good.

D&D 5E (2014) Are we getting the Mystic this month?

....Safehold? I forgot about that series! Where did I stop? Book four? I'd like to see sources on all the rumors, especially the new Barbarian subclasses and the 1/week articles.

D&D 5E (2014) Are we getting the Mystic this month?

That was the rumor, like, a month ago. It might also be, instead, the extended downtime rules to give higher-level players things to do with their money. Way my luck goes, it'll be the latter before the former, but I'm hopeful for Mystic.

Does Your Group Allow Homebrew or 3PP Material for D&D Games?

I've always been of the opinion that 3pp or homebrew is usually allowed--however, it is the sole province of the DM to decide whether or not the homebrew or 3pp product is balanced. Sometimes, they aren't, and I'll fix them if I can, or ban them outright if they can't be fixed. There will always...

    D&D 5E (2014) I want to be a tough full caster

Yeah, gotta third (fourth?) the suggestion for war domain cleric. Shield, heavy armor, hit stuff and be full caster.

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Changed My Mind About Third Party Books

Lost City of Barakus by Frog God Games; fun dungeon crawl, with some fun magic items. You'd have to convert, though, to 5e. Not a hard thing to do, however, just slightly time consuming if you're like me. There's also Stoneheart Valley, although I wouldn't call that a short adventure (neither...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Changed My Mind About Third Party Books

Oo. Got links to the sandboxy type areas adventures? I've got a world to populate, after all. If I had a complaint about FGG, it's that; while they make a sandbox, there are some areas of their sandbox--example, in Sword of Air--that are completely bereft of any details. The city Apothasalos...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Changed My Mind About Third Party Books

It plays right into my worldbuilder-obsessive personality by only teasing bits and pieces as you go along reading, making me want more and more.
