    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Aberrations & Oozes Video

I am not sure, looking exclusively at hard encounters is the way to go with the 2025 MM. The Ancient Gold Dragon seems to actually be a hard (and especially annoying) enemy for a non-optimized standard party of 4. In the test thread, a little bit of bad luck with saving throws actually shows...

    D&D 5E (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

I think the orc shift has 2 reasons: Half-Orcs are traditional PC species. Orcs are prominently featured in Warcraft 3. And there they were depicted as an honorful people. Actually in parts closer to being good than their human enemies.* *I know this is long ago. But WoW builds on that...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

My old box is slowly falling apart. The maps are now in single pages. And having seen the aberration video today, the whole adventure makes totally sense: .

    D&D 5E (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

Yeah. Seems like you now can translate old module demihumans to 2025 humanoids. While now most other humanoids (general shape of a human) will be something else.

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

Not sure if it is not intended. Against smaller (less than 4 characters) parties, the Dragon can´t use their bonus lair action and would still get extra XP for being in their lair. I think the idea of legendary action is not balancing it against smaller parties but spreading the damage over...

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

We will probably see harder hitting high level foes. In the video they said how tricky it is to balance the secomd breath weapon. So my guess: chromatic dragons do more damage in general in some way, while metallica have different ways to control the flow of battle. And look at the puny arms...

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

That assumes nearly all ASI go into only stat boosts. So a monk very optimized for combat. I still don't buy that the monk will go first every time. With Alert, they might have a chance (+13 initiative). The dragon has standard initiative of +19. Mybe the monk roll with advantage. Then it...

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

They are probably very good. I had hoped they would nerf the reaction a bit. Monk die + double proficiency bonus + dex or so. But I really question him im that the monk receives no damage. A monk only has one reaction. And if they use it to reduce damage, the dragon does not even need flyby...

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

Recently fought against a demon that used fear and charm with about 80% hit rate using it as a legendary action and as an aura. That was the epitome of an unfun encounter. Yes. In older editions it was quite standard. Ghoul hit you: out for minutes. I think at least the old lair actions could...

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

Don't if you don't have a reasonable chance to actually save. You need at least a +10 bonus on average to make the investment worth it. And at least a +4 bonus before you should even bother at all. I don't like a DC 24 banishment effect. But as I already said somewhere: having mage slayer...

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

The most significant buff over the lair action is DC24. DC15 with new fighter indomitable is an auto success. For the reappear wherever you want, I think it should state that it needs to be a place the dragon can see to be fair.

Because that superseeds natural armor? Ok. Noone had minded if they got +2 extra AC for good measure.

Ok. Can't help you then. Yes. Of course. No. But enough detail to easily make sense of it. In my opinion, it is their job to create a game that makes sense (and I think they do it well enough). If a warrior has 18 AC, I want to at least be able to deduce why. Chain mail and shield? CHECK. A...

    D&D 5E (2014) The "General Nature" of a Trap

It finds glyphs of warding and the alarm spell. Also convenient if you don't want to spend too much time searching for every inch. And if there is a lot on stakes, to make sure the rogue did not roll too low.

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Stat Block Compilation

Of course you can. But just a few days ago someone here was annoyed that the minotaur who was desribed using a greataxe did a slam attack dealing bludgeoning damage (in the monster stat thread). And I absolutely agree. Is it so hard to have mechanics that match the description? And to go...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Stat Block Compilation

I don't want to make up a reason all the time. It is the job of the designers to find a reason. Worn armor, natural armor, dexterity, whatever. I don't want to do their job allnthe time.
