D&D 5E (2014) Reliable Talent. What the what?

What if you changed it to making the total a minimum of 10 rather than the roll? Then a +13 score, roll 1, would be a minimum of 14, but a +5 score, roll 1 - 4, would be a minimum of 10. Reliable Talent By 11th level, you have refined your chosen skills until they approach perfection. Whenever...

    Custom Shield Proficiency Feat Ideas

Skilled is a very weak feat that almost nobody ever selects. Nothing should be weighed against it. It should at least have a +1 ASI attached to it. I like the latter idea. I would leave shield-bashing to a Shield Master variant. Armor proficiency feats don't give additional bonuses to the...

D&D 5E (2014) How do Prestige Classes work?

I am new to D&D and my only experience is 5e. I have read a number of mentions of Prestige Classes, but I don't understand what they are and how they work and interact with your other classes. Can someone explain what Prestige Classes are all about? Related questions: What's the difference...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the best way to handle ‘magic resistance’ in D&D 5e?

Magic Initiate: Absorb Elements, Resistance, Guidance is pretty close to what you are looking for. Advantage on a saving throw is roughly equivalent to proficiency statistically, which is half of Resilient. For Gnome Cunning, Int and Cha are mostly useless, so it is really a half-feat (+1 ASI)...

    Custom Shield Proficiency Feat Ideas

This is a great idea, and you are right on track for making a balanced feat. The simplest way is to combine the ideas you presented. I have worked on a feat called Trained that is a 10-point buy, with an ASI worth 5, shield proficiency worth 3, and a skill worth 2. This lines up nicely with the...

D&D 5E (2014) How Defeat this Coffelock Villain?

As I said in another forum where you posted the same problem, this is easy. Coffeelocks still need short rests. One method is to trick the Coffeelock into casting high level spells which can't be made from sorcerery points and can't be restored without a long rest. Hide in total cover for these...

    D&D 5E (2014) True Strike Revision

I like the critical hit idea, and I also like the helping another player idea. Here are five versions: 1. True Strike - Critical divination cantrip -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Casting Time: 1 action Range: Sight Components: S Duration: 1...

    D&D 5E (2014) Jack of All Saves

Perhaps, but that's why I was saying "in addition to", because they could get Superior Inspiration and this.

    D&D 5E (2014) Jack of All Saves

The 20th level Bard ability, Superior Inspiration isn't very good. Let's add another one to it. How about this? Jack of All Saves Starting at 20th level, you can add half your proficiency bonus, rounded down, to any saving throw you make that doesn’t already include your proficiency bonus.

    D&D 5E (2014) True Strike Revision

Great breakdown of scenarios! I did add the ability checks and saving throws to make it more broadly useful. I find that the casters who have access to True Strike are the least likely characters to benefit from it as they focusing on casting rather than weapon attacks. Saving throws opens it up...

You are probably right on this.

    D&D 5E (2014) Featclassing

Which is not what I want. But because casters don't gain anything except slots at many levels, what else could they sacrifice for feats?

Marathon, Broadway, and Catacomb: Upcoming D&D Products?

I imagine that the page counts are not the actual counts. 256 and 192 are very computer-y numbers (multiples of 64). They are probably placeholders representing approximate or relative length.

    D&D 5E (2014) Featclassing

I suppose if a feature applies at multiple levels, you lose one level's worth of that feature. For spells, you would still learn spells, but you would not gain spell slots, so you wouldn't learn higher-level spells as early.

    D&D 5E (2014) Featclassing

I like feats. I think it is fun to be able to customize your character. Here is a proposed rule to allow players to take more feats. What do you think? Featclassing When you gain a level after 1st in any class, you may choose to forgo all the class features you would gain, or spell-slot...

    D&D 5E (2014) Alternate AC calculation

Also, this allows Medium Armor Master to be expanded to a simpler Armor Master: Armor Master - Increase your Dexterity or Strength score by 1, to a maximum of 20. - Wearing armor doesn’t impose disadvantage on your Dexterity (Stealth) checks. - When you wear armor, the maximum Dexterity bonus...

    D&D 5E (2014) Alternate AC calculation

What about changing the way AC is calculated and boosting shields? AC = Base + Str + Dex + Prof/2 Shield AC = Str (max limit) Unarmored AC: Base = 10 This makes Dexterity and Strength more balanced. Your AC also scales as you level, becoming more proficient. The heavier the armor you wear, the...
