D&D 5E (2014) Elves, Elves, Elves, Elves, ... Elves, Elves, Elves, Elves, ...

Rather than drop all racial ASIs, what about dropping the +2 ASIs and have the only benefit come from subraces? This would almost always be +1 and should have a somewhat negligible impact on optimizing. Further, to replace that +2, you could either give a racial feat (@Wulffolk) or boost...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

But that's my point. If the spells don't exist to choose, you can't target various saves.

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

Supposed to, perhaps, but it is unrealistic. Spells in 5e are very lopsided toward their save choices. You can't easily say, "I know my enemies are great at Wisdom and pretty good at Dexterity and Con, so I'll just target Int and Cha" because there are evenly few Int and Cha spells.

D&D 5E (2014) New Race Feats Appearing in D&D's 'Xanathar's Guide to Everything

I agree. Unless they replaced the UA feats with well-balanced ones, I think it is poor design to give race-only features whether as feats or subclasses (Bladesinger) unless similarly-powered abilities are available to all races. I am in favor of removing the race restrictions, and I have a...

D&D 5E (2014) (Houserule) Add +1 to Int Mod Skill

We could simply take out the -2 skills to start, and say that a -1 Int loses one skill, but +X Int gains X skills. Skills. Your total number of skill proficiencies equals your Race Skills + Class Skills + Background Skills + Intelligence Modifier. If your Intelligence modifier decreases during...

D&D 5E (2014) (Houserule) Add +1 to Int Mod Skill

Interesting thoughts. Class Skills: You gain one fewer skill proficiencies from your class than specified in the class description. Background Skills: You gain only one skill proficiency from your background rather than two. Skills: Your total number of skill proficiencies equals your Race...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should D&D go away from ASIs?

The current maximum is Proficiency Bonus 6 + Maxed Stat Modifier 5 = +11. Dropping to a max 18 score, a +4 modifier, max proficiency should be 7. Most easily, this could start with proficiency +3 at level 1. You could also start with Proficiency Bonus 1 at level 1, and increases every third...

D&D 5E (2014) Tinkers Tools Revision and Skill Mastery (masterwork)

Ooo. I like the "Lantern that keeps casting Light" idea! I also like the familiar idea. I wouldn't require having the Find Familiar spell. Here are some ideas: - All clockworks you make have a 25 ft. walking speed and you can throw them 25 ft. + 5*Str mod ft. They do not take damage from being...

D&D 5E (2014) The Nature of the Shield Spell

This is right. If the DM knows the character AC, then the players should know the monster AC. If the DM can roll in secret, then the players can roll in secret. If the DM doesn't need to specify what spell is cast before a saving throw is made, then the players don't need to either, etc. If you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Solution to ASI Problem

I like these ideas. I've always thought it was weird that light armor has only two steps to it, leather and studded leather. (Padded is pointless. There is no reason to ever wear padded unless you are forced to by your DM.) Maybe drop Hide down from Medium to Light, and make it 13 + Dex?

    D&D 5E (2014) Wild Shape/Shapechange as Feat

Yes, I actually looked at Polymorph initially but started working in terms of Shapechange because I liked the wording of it better overall. But certainly the effect is more Polymorph-like in that it is a single creature, not a changing option, and it is always the same creature at that, compared...
