D&D 5E (2014) Martial Characters vs Real World Athletes

So you think being able to dodge or deflect a storm giant's attacks enough to live 18 seconds somehow is equivalent to being able to lift a ton? That really makes no sense at all. The actual takeaway is that 5E models reality worse than previous editions.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Champion weak compared to Battle Master?

It's not free. You're stuck as a champion. The "waste" comes in the DPR comparison. The crit damage is more likely to be overkill and not contribute to DPR than the superiority die is. In other words if half your crits are wasted on overkill you are getting 2.5% more crit hits, not 5%...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock without Eldrich Blast

You'd think something called Poison Spray wouldn't be a single target puff of gas, would you? It seems like people spend more time fixing stuff than playing 5E. I'd think you could safely let the eldritch blast invocations work on the other cantrips if players wanted to take them. Poison...

    D&D 5E (2014) Death strike is grisly

If your wildly inaccurate summary is what you got out of it, then yes, you need to take more time to think.

    D&D 5E (2014) Death strike is grisly

This has a basis in reality, although they are being very generous with how often a barbarian can rage already. Magic isn't real, it is not based on anything real, they can literally define it however they want and it makes perfect sense. They can, it's called gaining experience. Again...

    D&D 5E (2014) Death strike is grisly

Balance shouldn't trump making sense. Make the mega stab do less damage then.

    D&D 5E (2014) Death strike is grisly

It isn't restricted to (demi)human. There is a weird disparity between how effective the assassin is on a surprised target and a helpless one. It's like they forget all those anatomy lessons. They should have included stunned/paralyzed in what you can hit with death strike.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Champion weak compared to Battle Master?

Yeah, no. With advantage from Reckless Attack the champion is getting an extra crit every round or two more than the Battlemaster. With GWM that crit is turning into an additional attack. If they are also a horc the crits get an extra damage die. Unless the Battlemaster is resting after...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Champion weak compared to Battle Master?

Huh? It's the reverse of that. Having the choice on when to spend your die means you are less likely to waste it than a randomly occurring crit is unless your decision making is so bad it's worse than random.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Champion weak compared to Battle Master?

Battlemaster is good at low level and if you get lots of rests. Champion is good at high level or if you don't get lots of rests. Battlemaster is strong because of riposte, or possibly commander's strike with a rogue in the party. Champion is strong if you get synergy for it like reckless...

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage

Polearms don't increase your reach. They only give you reach during an attack. Yes, that somehow makes sense to people at WotC.

D&D 5E (2014) Good art and Really bad art in the 5e PHB

It weighs in at about 60 less pages than 3.5E and has a lot more art, so significantly less rules. More correctly it spends significantly less time on the rules that it has, as overall it covers pretty much the same ground as previous editions do. There are numerous sites with many hugely...

    D&D 5E (2014) Action Econ 101

It is completely unnecessary to add the bonus action portion unless it is granting an extra bonus action. Whether it is badly written by adding something that is unnecessary and confusing, or it is badly written because it put the extra bonus action in the wrong portion of the sentence, we...

D&D 5E (2014) Does 1d4 damage from basic poison (100gp) cause poison condition?

I bet for 100gp you could buy several sacks of angry flying snakes and do a lot more than d4 with them.

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone else find the arcane magic items in LMofP and in HoDQ over the top? (spoilers)

The real crime is that fighters aren't interested in taking a couple levels of wizard for the aura of antipathy anymore so they won't be using the wands themselves. Wizards on the other hand will take a fighter level or two very often.

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage

Yes, this is a common use for the cunning action rogues get, to disengage and charge through a pack of enemies to attack the BBEG in back. I don't think it gets used to actually disengage as much as it gets used to charge consequence free.

D&D 5E (2014) Feats as upward level adjustment

With the lifting and carrying rules as busted as they are, especially the ludicrous encumbrance variant that people like for some reason, a large creature limited by the 20 STR cap can't even DRAG a large ally let alone carry them as their own body weight is well beyond what they can deal with...

D&D 5E (2014) Feats as upward level adjustment

Pretty awkward when the 40 pound halfling with 20 STR is as strong as the 600 pound minotaur. Actually halflings are already pretty awkward just compared to humans. I'd say they could just give minotaurs a higher max but as they have very modularly written that you "can't go above 20" a dozen...

    D&D 5E (2014) Elemental Affinity

The argument is that an AE like fireball gets the bonus on each creature. A ray should likewise get it's bonus against each creature. If all rays are on one creature each ray should still get a bonus.
