    Level Up (A5E) Product Question

I have a couple of, probably dumb, questions. (1) Is there a way to late-back Monstrous Menagerie 2? I missed the KS (2) Do the Gate Pass Gazette Annuals contain all of the content from the year or just selected content?

D&D General Recommend me a somewhat contained setting

Earthdawn too maybe. Use or modify the Theran presence as the BBEG. Insert horrors as desired. It’s constrained, has plenty of factions, tons of lore you could pull at, and a built in BBEG you could use or modify.

D&D General Recommend me a somewhat contained setting

I think you could do something with Symbaroum. Ruins of Symbaroum is native 5e. There’s a corruption mechanic you could tie to your BBEG. Plenty of factions you could attach too. Meets the size criteria. Depending on how you envision the BBEG you might could make it work. Especially if you...

    Retro Review: The Dracula Dossier

I ran the Zalozhniy Quartet in Savage Worlds and Dracula Dossier is in my running for my 2026 big campaign (competing with one of the big Traveller campaigns). The bundle is a great buy, even just the advice in the NBA book about running conspiracies and structuring mysteries/investigations.

    D&D 5E (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

In playstyle and intent Shadowdark is certainly much closer to B/X. Mechanically its a slimmed down 5e. I definitely think SWADE is crunchier than 5e. I think it's got more corner case resolution details. It's got more character complexity I feel. Granted they are both mid-crunch, and...

    D&D 5E (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

I’ve owned every edition of D&D. The only version sitting on my shelf anymore is 4e and couple of sourcebooks from earlier editions I have for reference (World Builder Guidebook, Grey Box FR). I bought 2014 5e. It wasn’t for me. As I try and get to the minimum number of games to own and run...

When to set a "historical" supers game? (read OP before answering poll)

I voted Mythic Age. The idea of a Supers crossed with mythology sounds pretty fascinating as either the ur source of the mythology or supers being misidentified as the scions of the gods. I also voted Age of Exploration/Empire. A game set during the colonial era that explores supers with and...

Anyone tried the Salvage Union RPG?

I bought it to hack into Savage Worlds but have been waiting for the Savage Would new Sci Fi companion to really mess with it. Hopefully my hard copy will be in next week. I really liked what I saw from Salvage Union when images through it. I have not given a close read yet though.

The Most Creative TTRPG Settings and Milieus

Symbaroum, Numenera, The Olde World, Age of Sigmar/Soulebound, Coriolis all are fantastic settings the I’d love to run games in. I don’t love the systems attached to some of them though. The two systems that have excited me the most in the last ten years have been Blades in the Dark and...

    D&D General Best dungeons?

My personal favorite is Forge of Fury. It’s a modern masterpiece of dungeon design and the best adventure context to come out of the 3.x era.

Taking better notes when reading a new RPG rule set.

I too usually find some YouTube content particularly dealing with basic mechanics. Then I read the book. Then I try and play a game. Solo, one-shot, test scenarios, doesn’t matter. Run the system as you understand it. After I’ve given a test drive I hit the book again. I find I have a lot...

    What makes a successful session?

Less about specific story beats or milestones and more whether we advanced whatever story is being told. Sessions where you spin your wheels and handle logistics, while sometimes necessary, rarely feel successful. Even Lin the context of player driven goals you can ask the question are we...

    My "Savage" Experience

Pathfinder for Savage Worlds works really well out of the box. I don’t love how they converted the APs. They still need to take advantage of some of the SWADE tools (dramatic tasks, quick encounters) but that’s easy enough to change /handle. They also should have combined some encounters. The...

    What makes a successful session?

Did we have fun? Were the Players engaged? Was the GM on his game? Did we accomplish something meaningful content wise?
