My players are all new to the Realms and neither know, nor care, that there are different FR eras. I more or less ignore the established timeline and use content from different FR sources going back to the grey box - basically mixing together whatever seems most interesting with liberal dollops...

This is why I like the idea of alternate cover books only being available through bricks and mortar stores rather than Amazon and the like. I'd generally rather pay a bit more and support a FLGS.

There's mention of Under Illefarn Anew on the Candlekeep forums at least as far back as 2013 - possibly longer. I don't think it was initially written with the intent of publishing, let along sharing to the wider community. It's a massive undertaking if it was only meant for a home campaign...

That would be superb. I was just reading Illefarn Anew earlier this week and a 5e version would save me doing the conversion work. (y)

I have fond memories of 2e - it and 1e were the editions that I played the most. Some of the rules were quite janky but there were some glorious supplements published.

By the time I became aware of D&D, the successors to the white box were on the shelves. I've never had an opportunity to play it, but likewise own the reprint and would love to run a one-shot or mini campaign just out of curiosity.

That's similar to my thinking. I'm planning to run a series of classic modules mixed with some homebrew adventures and have been looking for a relatively unused corner of the Realms to use as a backdrop.
