D&D General 2024 official book release dates...

Crawford confirms the May release date was wrong and that none of the core books will be ready by May: “I just want to confirm with you and as well with everyone watching this video - that is definitely not the release date. That was never the release date,” Crawford continued. “In fact, we...

DDAL Polymorph and drop monster into a pickle jar.

I had a group successfully polymorph the Xanathar into a goldfish, put him in his own goldfish bowl with Sylgar, and then put the bowl into their Bag of Holding (along with other items they had in there). They neglected to pay attention to the "only 10 minutes of air in there" stipulation with...

D&D General The most played D&D Adventure of all time

I don't think we should underestimate the fact that Lost Mine of Phandelver was available for free on DNDBeyond from March 2020 until late 2023, and also free on Roll20 for part of that period as well. That's way bigger than how well the 5E Starter Set sold when evaluating the prevalence of that...

D&D General How long should an after work online gaming session be ideally?

"After the kids are in bed" is often the only viable option for a lot of parents to start a session.

D&D General How long should an after work online gaming session be ideally?

In terms of weeknights, I have a weekly Tuesday night online game that runs 7pm-9pm and a game that plays online every other Monday night from 8pm-10pm. I also have another game that plays monthly in-person for 3 hours, and another that's monthly in person for 4 hours. I also do one-shots (both...

D&D General 2024 official book release dates...

I think if we were getting anything in February or March we'd definitely know that by now. The Vecna book was described by Crawford and Perkins as "the first adventure using the new rules", so I don't think it's the "last hurrah" for the 2014 rules.

I'd like to see that too. I know that somewhere at Larian is their adaptation of Lost Mine of Phandelver which they made as proof of concept for WotC.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of that, but my point is I want to complain about it.

And I argue that if WotC valued playtesting more, their adventure books would be better quality. I recognize that the market doesn't push them to do that, though. I guess what I'm saying is that I look at these two facts: 1. Turn of Fortune's Wheel had hundreds of playtesters 2. Turn of...

Have you read it? Because man.... Hundreds of people might have tested that thing, but I don't think anybody listened to them about their experience.

They are definitely playtesting, but something is wrong with their process. I suspect (but don't know) one or both of these things is happening: - Playtesting is modular, not comprehensive. Groups are playing encounters, or chapters, or locations, but not the whole campaign - and then only...

4 tables of 4-5 players, over a 6 week period, paying players $25/hour and DMs more. Online is fine, they don't need to be the building. I publish adventures on DMsGuild on a budget of like $1k or less and all my stuff is play tested 3-4 times before it goes to print. I have nowhere near their...

Do I think they can playtest them at anywhere near the scale of BG3? No. Do I think they could be playtested much better than they currently are? Very much so.

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 Hates Religion (Spoilers)

Selune is portrayed very positively in the game, and her Chosen intervenes directly to help with the crisis (well, unless player choices prevent that from happening). The druids of the grove don't passively accept what's going on the the shadow-cursed lands; they're just kind of bad at stopping...

I'm more concerned with stuff that isn't going to be visible in analytics, but will be very obvious in playtesting. Like how the described action in Chapter 4 of Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden is totally incompatible with the travel times laid out in Chapter 1 of the same book. Real...

    D&D General The longer I play Baldur's Gate 3 ...

The number one thing I wish WotC would take away from BG3 is how well BG3 is play tested versus how many obvious design and editorial problems make it through into the 5E published adventures.
