    Trailer Superman Full Trailer

I just saw it. I enjoyed it - not perfect, and I still prefer the Donner film and Man of Steel, but it was good. A nice campy feel with lots of fun fiddly bits. The aesthetic was almost diametric to Man of Steel - more campy 60s ala the Fantastic Four movie than the baroque darkness of Snyder's...

    D&D General Do THIS, WotC!

Another: Some kind of Epic/Immortal Handbook. Not just 16-20 level, but 21 and beyond. Rules for attaining truly mythic status, even demigodhood at levels 30+.

    D&D General Do THIS, WotC!

For the life of me, I just don't understand why WotC didn't years (or decades) ago offer a simpler variant, even bringing back "Basic" vs. "Advanced," but in a more literal sense. I suppose, maybe, they didn't want to confuse people, or compete against themselves. But I think a more "basic D&D"...

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

Thanks for the replies, folks. And yes, I do realize that a lot of systems do this. Just curious what people would bring up. Another: Talislanta. While I normally don't like relying on a table, the Action Table is simple enough to quickly memorize, and rather elegant in terms of game play.

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

I said "simple." ;) OK, fair enough...thought still a bit more complicated than I'd like, and I'm always a bit leery on "chart-dependence."

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

By realistic, I primarily mean differentiating what D&D calls AC into its two components: dodge/parry and damage reduction. Or to put it another way, a more realistic version of D&D would have to-hit vs. an opponent's ability to dodge, parry, or otherwise evade being actually hit, and also...

    D&D General Do THIS, WotC!

We've done this sort of thread (probably many) times before, but why not again? If you could command WotC to publish any book on any (D&D-related) topic, what would it be? They can be as outlandish as you want. Feel free to offer more than one. What comes to mind for me... Nentir Vale and...

Phase 5 of the MCU is over

Here are the percentage of the films I've seen: Phase 1: 100% (6/6) Phase 2: 100% (6/6) Phase 3: 91% (10/11) Phase 4: 29% (2/7) Phase 5: 17% (1/6) I'll see Thunderbolts when it is out streaming, so that will be close to Phase 4. I guess I'm a bit "MCU-ed" out. I am curious about FF, Secret...

    Trailer SUPERMAN Final

Evidently the Daily Beast posted a scathing review, then it was taken down. I think this film is either going to be great or terrible, with no in-between (or hopefully at least fun enough to be enjoyable, but not great).

Who is your favorite James Bond?

I voted Connery, Moore, Craig, though I liked Dalton OK - I just think Craig does it better (pun intended). Brosnan was boring and too down-the-center Bond. Lazenby didn't get a chance to grow into the role, but is a clear #5, imo. Connery, Moore, and Craig all put a more quirky spin on it, in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

In what way is Dark Sun 18+? I may be forgetting details, but I don't remember anything in Dark Sun that is significantly--if at all--more for "mature audiences" than, say, a typical high school history class in which you learn all sorts of horrible things, and about the real world, no less. Or...

[James Bond] The next movie directed by Denis Villeneuve

Yes, good point. And there's newer elements that can be folded in. I mean, a rogue AI could feature as a villain.

[James Bond] The next movie directed by Denis Villeneuve

I was thinking a heavily stylized 1960s film, but you could do something similar with style and make it more contemporary. First of all, you don't need the Cold War. At first I thought maybe you kind of do, because it was easier to make cartoonish villains out of Russians etc, due to limitations...

OSR What does OSR mean to you? What do you value most in an OSR game?

Or another way to put it, Spelljammer was a bit of a throwback to 70s-era science fantasy. Planescape, on the other hand, was very much influenced by White Wolf and went hogwire on "90s kewl." So you can see a split there.

OSR What does OSR mean to you? What do you value most in an OSR game?

Yeah, I agree. But you could say that early 2E stuff like Spelljammer and Dark Sun is, at least, "OSR adjacent." But I hear you that Dragonlance was a big bifurcation and the first big "de-Gygaxation" of D&D (or maybe Ravenloft).

OSR What does OSR mean to you? What do you value most in an OSR game?

To me its primarily about vibe and inspiration. The fact that there can be endless debate about what specific elements constitute the OSR, pretty much says that there is no specific or definitive combination of factors that scream "To be OSR, it must include ABC, but not XYZ." Rather, I see it...

The First Rule of David Fincher is You Don't Rank David Fincher

The Game is actually my favorite Fincher movie. It is really more of a gnostic/psychological film than a pure thriller. Fight Club is up there, too, and a better film but the Game has a special place in my heart. Seven was excellent and probably a more distant #3, but unlike my 1-2, not...
