    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing classes for an "Enchanter/Illusionist" concept

Sorcerers are great for really ramming those saving throws down the target's throat, but they're missing a few key manipulator spells, like Modify Memory. You can get around this if you can convince your DM to allow the Favoured Soul and take the Trickery domain. But I feel like the ultimate...

D&D 5E (2014) Elemental Evil companion spells underwhelming?

That is an excellent point that makes Flame Arrow an impressive choice for dragon sorcerers. Even if it takes time and concentration, and taking into account there's no half damage on a miss, 12d6 + 60 damage is impressively efficient use of a spell slot.

D&D 5E (2014) Elemental Evil companion spells underwhelming?

Sorcerers and Wizards have it, but c'mon, they have even better spells to concentrate on than Hunter's Mark. I mean, do you want +1d6 fire damage on your attacks or do you want +1 attack and +2 AC? IMO, because the damage it does is sustained rather than burst, and each arrow can only hit one...

D&D 5E (2014) Elemental Evil companion spells underwhelming?

Some of the spells stink, some are great, and many are highly situational. So it's just like every other spell list in the history of DnD. Shadowdweller00 listed some of the best ones. I also like Watery Sphere, Storm Sphere, Melf's Meteors, Ice Knife, Frostbite, Magic Stone and Gust.

    D&D 5E (2014) Faerun Visitors Bureau

Forgotten Realms is so huge, pretty much every fantasy trope is represented somewhere in that game world, with a weekend special of dead gods and ancient civilizations. I think I recall reading somewhere that Faerun had three times as much geography as Earth, but I think they cut through a lot...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's Talk About Inspiration

If not a lot of Inspiration is being handed out, I don't see why it couldn't be used like the Lucky feat: To add an extra die roll, after the fact, and even in cases of advantage. If Lucky characters can do that three times a day, and even apply it to enemy rolls, I don't think it's game...

D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch blast and hex as class features?

Making them spells instead of class features isn't about the warlock, it's about everybody else. If it's a class feature, the only way to get Eldritch Blast is to grab a level or two of warlock. But because it's a spell, other classes can get Eldritch Blast with a feat, and the Bard can grab...

    D&D 5E (2014) Awesomest D&D Experience Ever!

Sounds almost as awesome as that time in 2nd ed I hit Strahd with a Mace of Disruption and rolled 00 on the percentile. Yeah, the DM only let me discorporate him for a split second before he came back more pissed off than ever, then it was back to getting the heck out of Ravenloft. Boo. :.-(

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Modifying Classes & Spell-less Rangers

Sorry, I thought it was clear that I was talking about "best" relative to other sorcerer subclasses, since Favoured soul obviously doesn't enjoy the "best" martial prowess or spell selection in the entire game, either.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Modifying Classes & Spell-less Rangers

Light and medium both go up to 17, if your dex is high enough. Yes, a dragon sorcerer or mage armour spell could go to 18, but shield proficiency puts the soul over the top, letting them hit 20 with Mage Armor, or 19 with medium armor and a moderate dex score. Spellcasting with a shield can be...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Modifying Classes & Spell-less Rangers

Yeah, I like the tradeoff as it is. Favoured Soul enjoys the best armour, martial prowess, and most versatile spell selection, but lacks in other defenses (including HP), skill utility, and raw magical output compared to other sorcerers.

FANTASY GROUNDS Virtual Tabletop's D&D License!

This isn't the right product for me. But I take it as welcome news that WotC is working with third party software developers to license their IP. Perhaps the next licensed dev will have a product more to my liking.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Modifying Classes & Spell-less Rangers

For the cleric, domains are the subclass, and their job is to make different religions distinct and play differently. For the favoured soul, the domain spells are a magic boost to just one subclass, and a pretty huge one. Even if every domain spell comes from the sorcerer list, a favoured soul...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Modifying Classes & Spell-less Rangers

Considering how poorly shields combine with spellcasting even in good conditions, and that the Favoured Soul misses out on Dragon Sorcerer's +1 hp per level, it doesn't seem out of line to me. Armour proficiencies are nothing that the sorcerer couldn't get by dipping a single level into cleric...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Modifying Classes & Spell-less Rangers

They gets spells ranging from cantrip to 9th level. They're full casters. The big difference is that where other full casters have a smooth spell power curve across their slots, Warlock output peaks higher at cantrip and 5th level and dips lower elsewhere.

D&D 5E (2014) Spell combos under Concentration economy

This is almost too Captain Obvious to mention, but if you have two casters, you can set up some nasty zone spells and hold the enemy in them. Caster One throws up something like Cloudkill or Insect Plague, then Caster Two drops Entangle, Web, Evard's Tentacles, or my personal favourite if you...

D&D 5E (2014) Melee Combat Benchmarking (Class Comparison) [UPDATED]

Yeah, wizards are there to fry/weaken large groups so the fighter can mop up, or control enemy groups so they don't overwhelm the party. A more relevant comparison would be warlocks, since they get the most damaging cantrip + Hex, and enough toughness to go to the front lines.

D&D 5E (2014) Spell combos under Concentration economy

Gust of Wind may be concentration, but Gust the cantrip is instantaneous. But yeah, if you've got the positioning for it, the Whip is obviously the better choice.

D&D 5E (2014) Can I Move, Dodge AND Attack in the Same Round?

Haste would let you do it, but since you can't Dodge with the Haste action and it only grants a single weapon attack, you're only going to be able to attack once if you do. Maybe a second time with a bonus action if you're a dual wielder or frenzied berserker.
