    D&D 5E (2014) Why don't Arcane Tricksters get access to Bigby's Hand?

Bards have Tasha's, Otto's, Leomund's Tiny Hut, and Mordenkainen's Mansion and Sword right on their list. Sorcerers have Maximillian's Earthen Grasp, Aganazzer's Scorcher, Snilloc's Snowball, Melf's Meteors, and Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting on their list. Great Old Warlock's have Tasha's and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Class Eldritch Pact

Easy. You find a musty, mysterious tome full of dark secrets. Despite the arcane symbols and disturbing imagery, you felt compelled to turn page after page. The strange words of a dead language filling your mind with alien thoughts. When you finished, days had passed. You did not eat, sleep...

D&D 5E (2014) Advice on building my first character

I'd say you pretty much nailed it. There's a little conflict between using your bonus action for an offhand attack and using it for martial arts, but it's not a big problem. About the only thing worth considering is a couple levels of warlock so you can see in magical darkness, but then you...

D&D 5E (2014) Should i bother with magic initiate feat?

If you're getting Hex, I'd be tempted to pick up Scorching Ray. An upranked Scorching Ray with Hex will not only outdamage Disintegrate but it also bypasses magic resistance. Expensive, but one heck of a damage spike. Not that Fireball isn't a great choice, too. Just a question of whether you...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E PHB heading back into the Amazon top 100?

Considering how hard it is to get 6 adults together to play, not to mention the minefield of egos, I think it belongs in "Management and Leadership."

    D&D 5E (2014) Help me optimize a Giant Frog/Toad build!!!

Well, you might care when the priest bludgeons his way past your toad hit points and you're suddenly back in human form trying to vomit up a holy man.

    D&D 5E (2014) Booming or Greenflame?

Warcaster requires that the spell target only the creature provoking the attack. GFB is arguably not even eligible, and if it is, you certainly can't hit a second target with the splash.

    D&D 5E (2014) sorcerous eldritch knights

Lets look at the trade. It costs you access to handy reactions like Shield and Counterspell, as well as Protection from Energy and Dispel Magic. Banishment and Stoneskin at high level, though I'm not sure if it's really worth worrying about such late career spells. Mage Armor not really worth...

Darn, I think you're right. And even worse, it wrecks any concentration effects you might have going.

D&D 5E (2014) First experience with 5th edition and Lost Mines of Phandelver (no spoilers)

I haven't played the module, so I'll just comment on a couple of your 5th ed observations. This is normal, and fine. Heals are only really needed to keep people alive in an "oh, crap" situation, and Bard is perfectly up to that task. Hit dice are supposed to pull most of the healing weight...

    D&D 5E (2014) some tweets

That's a handy trick. Misty Step away from an enemy, then ready a nasty spell like Disintegrate the next time it attacks. It rules out other handy reactions like Shield or Counterspell, but lets you step up beyond mere cantrips if you really want to pour it onto an enemy.

D&D 5E (2014) Unarmed strike finesse house rule

You're right that there are smaller, simpler rule adjustments to allow unarmed sneak attacks. I was thinking it might be fun to make a monk equivalent to Martial Adept. Grant a ki point, gain access to some of the monk uses for that ki point. A single use of Stunning Strike per short rest...

D&D 5E (2014) Unarmed strike finesse house rule

I agree with this, but you still need to houserule that monk unarmed strikes have the Finesse attribute if you want to allow people to sneak attack with them. Although monk unarmed strikes functionally have Finesse, it seems to have been a deliberate choice not to use the word 'Finesse'. No idea...

    D&D 5E (2014) sorcerous eldritch knights

Sorcerer's abjuration is substantially weaker than wizard. No Absorb Elements, no Protection from Evil. Missing a few other spells that are good for EK, like Magic Weapon and Vampiric Touch. You're basically constraining the EK's combat ability and boosting its role in the social pillar.

    D&D 5E (2014) Best Rogue Archetype for a Bandit?

Don't forget to take Expertise in Intimidate. As a bandit, it's a lot easier and less dangerous to scare somebody out of their money than to murder them for it. And a cool name, like The Devil Crow of Brackwater Swamp! Okay, that might be laying it on a little thick, but you get the point.

    Bow Druid

I would think that pointed steel tips would have some advantages when it comes to piercing armour, but even sharpened, hardened wood tips do a pretty good job if they hit meat. http://www.uwyo.edu/surovell/pdfs/antiquity%202009.pdf

    D&D 5E (2014) Help me optimize a Giant Frog/Toad build!!!

You need Druid 4 for Giant Toad. It has a swim speed. Also, you can't cast Message as a toad. But what the hell, throw a level of Great Old One Warlock on the pile for telepathy. Be an inspiring hypnotoad.

    Bow Druid

Easy fix for arrows: Use stone arrowheads. And I agree Land Druids deserve more respect. Land's Stride can help you maintain range on your enemies. I suggest Grassland Circle so you can access Haste to maintain distance and shoot more arrows. For multiclass, ranger does offer a nice boost to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

I don't agree with this. Earlier in the thread, a poster mentioned that a 5th level warlock in his game wanted to be mysterious and beguiling, but was drawn to the Eldritch Blast + Agonizing Blast combo. And why not? It's a great Invocation and all a warlock needs to do solid DPR. And it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlocks and Multiclassing

Eldritch Knight is special like that. It's design always gives a nice goody every few levels that makes you want to keep advancing, even as a multiclass. That's one of the things I love about it. It encourages and rewards deep multiclass. Rogue is pretty good like that, too. As long as you're...
