Spelljammer A look at 30 Spelljammer Minis

Those Astral Elves give HUGE space empire vibes and I’m here for it.

    D&D 5E (2024) (+) Reviving Ideas from DnDnext

I would love if the “hit on a ‘miss’” was handled like shock damage in Worlds Without Number. No attack is a single swing, some things are going to get through, sometimes you’ll make contact with a shield and the pure impact is still going to hurt. Anything to make things move faster, please.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spells you house rule?

This is the “DM may I” problem I mentioned upthread, which makes me feel like a nofun curmudgeon. Players want to use the thing, which is why they try. Think I might steal the “everybody gets a plus 1 until concentration shifts” take on the spell, seems like an elegant fix.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spells you house rule?

I’m not even really sure how I’d “fix” it, but I hate the play experience of Guidance. It’s either a constant game of “DM may I” or a shouting match of “Guidance!” After ever check is called for, and I hate it.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D and who it's aimed at

Sword guy looks like any other sword guy. He’s young, but lots of PCs are. The woman is bookish, just in a different way than other wizards. Round glasses instead of, idk, square ones? The owl is definitely cute. Good for him, little scamp.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D and who it's aimed at

And as a man that likes both cute things and smashing down doors and taking names, Infernal contracts with Asmodeus, hags eating children and the gonzo world of Spelljammer, I couldn’t be happier with some cute things showing up alongside heaps of the other stuff.

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana: Heroes of Krynn Revisited

When you're used to the game, alignment is reductive and unnecessary. It also has a tendency to paint entire groups of culture-having species with a MASSIVE brush. When you're new to the game, DM or player, alignment is a lifesaver, giving you an easy-to-grok guide on how something should...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D and who it's aimed at

Coming in very late here, but on the art angle, I'm in the camp that thinks that 1) I am very happy that we don't have male gaze-y "show your chest and your butt at the same time as you pose for the camera, young lady, while the men all look at a different angle toward the offscreen threat"...

D&D 5E (2014) What was the 'new format'?

I really, really like the idea of "grab your core books, grab one of the setting slipcases (in much more digestable sizes and a book to pass to your players), and get going."

D&D 5E (2024) What if you were in charge of reworking classes for 5.5?

Put me in camp "4 main classes with all current other concepts being subclasses for those four main classes." Then give our Fighter equivalent DCC's Mighty Deeds of Arms mechanic straight up. Donzies.

Noodling on a 1 page RPG

This looks really neat! I could see using this for a pick up game of some kind or something. Just curious, is it supposed to be Lifepath RPG, or is the RGP order accurate and means something else?

    D&D 5E (2014) Arcadia 15 is out!

This is a really good issue, too. The Monk subclass looks dope as all get out, can't wait to use it as a basis for a Venom/Carnage-esque villain.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Tasha's Broken?

I really hope that in the 2024 release WotC just gets rid of ASIs at character creation entirely and somehow retools stat-generation or other numbers as necessary so that we can never have to talk about it again.

    Release The Illrigger (FG VTT)

I had so much fun playing an Illrigger in a Curse of Strahd campaign last year, if you can get your DM to approve it for you I highly recommend giving it a go.

Level Up (A5E) Matt Colvile's MCDM Products

MCDM makes some of the highest quality 3PP out there would be one reason, I guess. I had a blast playing an Illrigger, and that order is still a fixture in my game. Arcadia has several articles that are bangers, Kingdoms and Warfare is fun, their art team is great and he pays his workers well.

D&D 5E (2014) What interesting niche do Gnomes have in your Homebrew Campaigns?

I have them as intensely reliant on socializing with others, to the point where a gnome left alone will die of loneliness. This causes them to create incredibly tight-knit communities, which they extend to outsiders as well as themselves.

Recommend a Virtual Tabletop (VTT), 2022 Edition

Owlbear Rodeo is the perfect VTT for me. Let's me put tokens on a map, jot notes down on them, and then gets out of my way.

Level Up (A5E) Matt Colvile's MCDM Products

If there are any problems with mixing and matching things from MCDM and A5E or O5E, I haven't noticed them.

AD&D 1E The fate of an old school adventure designer

Oh wow, I'm just now learning that Schick worked with TSR/was involved with DnD. I only knew him as the lore guy for Elder Scrolls Online back when that launched!

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

Super late here, but I've been sitting on a thought about why representation of people from diverse backgrounds matters when it comes to being able to get our hands on unique content and why diversity, in itself, IS a solid selling point, even if you're someone who thinks it's unimportant. I...
