WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

I don’t know about the RPG industry specifically but I would say it is true of large corporations in general. Periods of boom and then bust. Look at all the large tech companies that have laid off staff in the past 12 months. Almost all of them. These are the same companies that were...

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

I have long said the same thing. They are a self interested corporation. Not my friend. I buy some of their products but not very many actually and none in the past 18 months.

Seems like the same 10-15 people all the time. Wouldn’t count that as ‘most.’

I am not sure what one has to do with the other. I was just making the point every thread goes this same route.

It’s so hard to tell anymore. Maybe but literally every thread involving WoTC whether it be about current events or game play decisions goes this route. So I am inclined to say no.

I doubt that helps much at Hasbro. Hasbro as we know it is dying. They are going to have to reinvent themselves as the toy market continues to decline and with that probably more layoffs and restructures as they adjust to a more digital world.

I agree. The need to always increase stock prices has devalued employees. Employees are often seen more as a cost than an asset. And corporations are soulless indeed. By definition they are an entity created to make money. They have no humanity. I like D&D but I have no attachment to Hasbro.

I am sure I will get attacked for this but it is pretty telling about these forums when WoTC hiring leads to all this vitriol.

Wow how very self righteous of you. Thinking something is unwise is not necessarily disapproval. I have many times wanted to speak my mind like that.

It’s not mutually exclusive. You can speak up without resorting to words like ‘soulless’ etc. you can speak up without being inflammatory toward the company. I don’t care of course. More power to him. I am just saying there is more than one way to go about things like that. But I support...

Agree. Posts like that never help career prospects. And for all those saying he has a job. Just because someone has a job doesn’t mean it is the one they want long term.

100%. I have been at several companies where every department had to cut 5%. It didn’t make sense but every area has to feel the ‘pain.’ Then usually about a year later they realized well that didn’t make sense to cut across the board. Some departments and staff are more critical than others.

[Kobold Press] The Labyrinth is coming to Kickstarter this September!!!

I thought more Midgard content was planned for this year. But I imagine this is the last project for this year and this is at best Midgard adjacent. Any Midgard updates?

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Direct Will Talk About Project Sigil & Future of D&D on Aug 27th

I would love an updated Manual of the Planes. I also wish they would flesh out the 1st world or whatever it is in a setting book but realize that is unlikely.

Agreed. Hopefully we will get some information on when the subclasses that didn’t make the PHB will show up.

I was wondering how long before the disgruntled people show up and turn this into a lot of complaining but I see the over/under should have been set at less than 7.

    D&D General Recommendation for a party of eight+ ?

Yeah optimal group size is 4-5. The largest group I have ever DMed for is 6. We had to have ground rules as far as being ready when their turn came around to keep the game moving. The larger the group the tighter you have to keep everything to stop things from bogging down.
