D&D 5E (2014) Comprehend Languages and "literal" meaning

Comprehend language does not use the word "translate" in its definition. The caster understands the meaning as well as a native speaker. The "lost in translation" bits occur when the caster tells the others what it means.

D&D 5E (2014) Comprehend Languages and "literal" meaning

I would oppose literal to cultural. Idioms are part of the language but no footnote to explain that "7" actually means "many", that's an Arcana check or something. Of course, "Temba, his arms wide" is untranslatable because it is purely cultural.

D&D 5E (2014) Variant human Dex Fighter tank: Medium Armor Master or Heavy Armor + Mobile?

Mobile all the way because you can change your mind and go medium/light whenever you want. I've been convinced MAM is a one-trick pony.

D&D 5E (2014) Should I dip either Fighter or Rogue for my BladeLock?

AT/EK would give you 2 extra slots for low level spells. SA is strictly better than dueling style. Expertise has out-of-combat use. Arcane trickster 3 seems best.

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimizing a BladeSinger

Light armor gives you that +2 AC and an enchanted studded is more likely than Con16. As it stands, you can start 8 16 14 16 10 10 and get AC18 while dancing. Then you get to play the typical wizard for the rest of the day. Dipping fighter for mariner will be easier.

    D&D 5E (2014) ritual casting overpowered?

Yeah, no need to be that complex. Just use an hex grid: - the center hex has a 30' inscribed circle; - the 6 hexes beside it are 60' away from the center, if you use 6 MM there only the center 30' is safe; - the 12 next hexes beside it are 120' away from the center, using 12 MM there gives you a...
