    What's in an elf?

My preferred way of doing things, would be that every race has several racial bonuses you can get but you can only pick one or two of them. For example... Elf: +1 dexterity +1 speed Low-light vision Choose one from the following: [A] Arcane Talent [B] Heightened Agility [C] Nature Talent OR...

A Better Way to Do Critical Hits?

I think 4e did it best. It kept the "natural 20" aspect that is ingrained in our culture but removed the need to confirm the critical and by only maximizing damage, probably kept hit points down (and they are already high).

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Feats

Making feats swappable class features is the way to go. That is why I am pushing for class specific feats being the norm. I would even suggest that level requirements for feats become common to allow more power variance in feats and make them feel more like class features. The biggest thing this...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Feats

I think rerolls are a better way to go since it's a way to reduce the amount of numerical bloat you get with the actual roll + modifiers. That and I think it has a psychological effect on the player, you don't feel as vulnerable to a bad roll.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Rangers Have Spells in 5e?

I would want rangers to have the option to learn nature magic. The ranger by default should be a martial-only class though.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Feats

I think feats as they were in 3e and are in 4e are fundamentally broken. Feats are way too numerous and for any given character, only a handful would apply to them. Worst of all, many of the feats I end up taking only give numerical bonuses because I need to pay the tax to stay viable as a...

What themes do you want in core?

Stuff like Ghost, Lich, Summoner and so on are not the avenue of Themes. They require too much mechanical crunch to work and something like Lich is a endgame goal.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5E have Healing Surges?

I think the Healing Surge system introduced in 4e is an improvement over how things worked in 3e. It liberated the cleric (and similar classes) from having to fully devote themselves to healing the party and gave a hard limit of how much damage a character can soak up during the course of an...

    Time to Heal

I think it's a fair thing to say by the OP. Every person I play with describe the cleric as a healer.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next the return of prestige classes?

From What did Wizards learn from Essentials? How would people if prestige and paragon are entirely replaced by subclasses? This is a pretty good solution if the classes in D&Dn can be presented concisely in a page or two in a rulebook. This would remove a lot of fiddly nature of tacking too...

What did Wizards learn from Essentials?

How does everyone feel about the subclass system that Essentials introduced? What I am talking about is the Ranger actually being a Hunter (Ranger) or a Scout (Ranger). It is something I am hoping they will bring to 5e because it'll allow multiple classes to share one pool of resources. For...

D&D 5E (2014) Comeliness: An Add On Module for 5E

    Evil people are surprisingly accepting.

D&D 4E A thought on WotC's imperative to continue to digitally support 4e.

My D&D group is currently spread all throughout Ontario and the online portion of 4E is a major reason we still play DnD right now (yay virtual table). The tools are amazingly helpful in general actually.

Six Saving Throws - One for Each Ability Score?

One thing I like about rolling for saving throws (even if I don't mind at all static defenses) is that it allows players to participate in combat when it's not their turn, increasing player participation.

    D&D 5E (2014) My D&D Next Experience at DDXP

I never understood that rule. A fanged mace is just as deadly and capable of drawing blood as a sword.

    D&D 5E (2014) My D&D Next Experience at DDXP

Thank you for the Rogue information. Hopefully your criticisms were heard and noted by the designers. Considering the numerous criticisms you had for D&Dn, what do you feel they did right? Even with your negative experience, is there a feeling of "almost there" where you can see this becoming...

    D&D 5E (2014) My D&D Next Experience at DDXP

Why did you get bored of your Rogue character (without breaking the NDA)? Was it a lack of options or were there a lot of options given, but they weren't very diverse? Do you feel that the direction they took the Rogue class was a bad one, or was it just a case of the mechanics not being...

    Was Thac0 really that bad?

If THAC0 never existed up to 3rd edition and was added in 4th edition to replace the d20 system, people will see it as a huge step back and needless over complication.

Skills - what is your preference

I think assuming there won't be better design over how attributes mechanics work to avoid pigeonholing seems unfair. If they made the attribute system more flexible, I am fine with having less emphasis on skills.

People have the strangest deal makers

I am a sucker for necromancers. Give me a way to play as one while it being fair to the other party members and not feel under powered.
