    WotC D&D branded game table

Player trays not tall enough for a D&D character sheet. So many of these tables by different makers all share a similar design. I don't see enough innovation on actually reaching the map and figures, and actually having room to have a character sheet, a spell list and a player's handbook open...

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

Comes with a PDF of the full core set. It's for GMS to say to their players, "Stop getting fingerprints on my cards. Buy your own damn cards." It's a cheaper way for players to get in the game, with nice cards. Without separating the pristine card set that the GM keeps in sleeves.

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

Todd Kenreck (!) goes over all the new stuff in this video. New campaigns, new frames, new ancestries in HeroForge. Art of Daggerheart book. New dice. Jeeeze. This game is on FIRE.

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

This is great news!!! It means the GM isn't responsible for loaning their cards to all their players. It also hints at character-based expansion being something the PLAYERS pay for, and not an adventure sourcebook that the GM pays for.

    The Daggerheart Inspirational Thread [+]

Now that I’ve played it, i’ve come to the conclusion that lack of initiative in combat is like taking the training wheels off the bike. it’s scary at first. But once you take them off you find you don’t need them!

D&D In a Castle Organizer to Launch D&D Dungeon Master University

And here I am, like a fool, teaching the same thing for free at my local public library!! 😅 Honestly i can say this product isn’t for me, but i don’t begrudge the people who might want to enjoy something like this, nor the people who would spend their time preparing, traveling to, and teaching...

Then, I'd encourage a more generous reading of the core book. There are entire sections of it devoted to things other than mechanics. It's all intended for gameplay. How could it not be so?

Right but my perception is that you may be insisting that mechanics are the only determinative factor in how others play the game, and I'm pushing against that idea.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

As a GM, I am more interested in if the system supports MY intended play loop. I care not how other tables play, and if the system is properly corralling them and keeping them to something intended by the designers. What I highlighted are structural and content supports for the game I like to...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I guess I differ with you on the idea that if something isn't specifically mechanically rewarded it's irrelevant to the type of game that gets played at the table. To me, TTRPGs are vibe engines. It's not chess where the rule mechanics are the sole dictators of the play state. It'll never...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

There’s a lot of advice within the rulebook of different ways to pursue interconnected character arcs. The character creation and session zero instructions direct some of this, and large parts of the book instruct GMs on how to use this to construct A, B, and C-plot lines that interweave...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Indeed, Elvish Lore. I find the people I'm introducing to Daggerheart have a curiosity for why and how it might be different from games they've played before. And maybe it's a mindset thing, but in a tactical game it pays to be risk-avoidant. But in a storytelling game, it pays to be messy--...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

It's good to hear that perspective and helpful for me to be aware of as I introduce new players to the system. I think mathematically the game isn't skewed against players who will be generating Hope 54% of the time (not even counting features that let you re-roll). But it's important to...

Adding to that, If they succeed or fail with hope, I also narrate or let the player narrate what that outcome looks like. So it's not just a Fear roll that changes that imposes a secondary flavor to an outcome. Succeeding with Hope is not just success plus a token. Its Success PLUS a...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Of course the consequence can JUST be the GM gains a Fear if the GM deems it that story wise an additional outcome isn't necessary for narrative. This is illustrated in the Full Example of Play part of the rulebook. I think you're counting the bummer things for the player, but not counting...

This is very interesting. I agree it's a true bit of human psychology. But I really wish that people would stop ascribing "magic" or "memory" or "will" to a set of plastic dice.

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

Yeah, they're not going to print any more copies of the kit with outdated rules, I think we can be certain of that.

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

i feel like we’re doing the idea of prep a disservice by arguing extremes. “Zero prep” vs “multiple hours writing up encounters”. Maybe something in the middle works. I’m more like, your game will probably benefit from some preparation. There are ways to prep more time efficiently. Absolute...

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

Sly Flourish has “Lazy GM Prep”, which uses steps to keep prep time efficient. It’s not really a goal of mine to eliminate prep or even reduce it too much. But i find the steps helpful nonetheless. I have definitely PLAYED games where the DM seemed unprepared. Maybe’s they thought they...

D&D General Todd Kenreck Let Go from WotC

I don't agree with that. I find it very easy to differentiate their work from the AI-generated "D&D-like" content I've seen from chatbots. Unless you're asserting that you don't care for the work they're publishing, and this is just a dig at work you don't like.
