    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Resistance

I recall a Dragon article from long ago that I rather liked. It featured weapons that were made of silver and cold iron alchemically bonded together. They were a bit expensive, but not egregiously so. That would tend to cut down on the golf-bag effect?

D&D 5E (2014) Cleric Domains and Turn Undead

I'm really liking the domains, but I'm dissatisfied with Turn Undead as a class feature for all clerics. I see no reason why every deity in the universe would or should care about the undead... It makes perfect sense for the Life and Light domains, much less so for the others. I'd just rip it...

D&D 5E (2014) What I want: 17 books or book series (and two boxes) for a Third Golden Age

There's nothing wrong with ponies at all. There's lots of problems wishing for ponies when your parents can't afford one and you have no conception of what it will take to take care of one. My post had no reference to Ryan Dancey at all. It dealt with simple economic common sense. If you...

    The World of Terrima

So with the advent of D&D 5e, I've been pondering how it all applies to Terrima. (I really like the new edition, btw.) The playable races are: Humans, half-elves, and dwarves. Half-elves are re-fluffed as humans with a smidge of elvish blood generations back. (They therefore interbreed with...

D&D 5E (2014) What I want: 17 books or book series (and two boxes) for a Third Golden Age

I have to say, the 'pony' expression came to my mind as well. (And no, I'm not a fanboy either... until ordering the 5e PHB, I last purchased a WotC product when the 3.0 core books came out.) It seems apropos because, whether or not your list would bring about a Golden Age (the matter is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Blingdenstone with PHB

Thanks for the good advice, guys! And MortalPlague, thanks for the link! Blingdenstone is indeed a very good adventure, it's a keeper.

    D&D 5E (2014) Blingdenstone with PHB

I haven't wanted to comment much on 5e until my Player's Handbook finally arrives (it's due Thursday), but I did want to ask this: Do people think the Blingdenstone adventure from the playtest would be viable just by replacing the monsters with their current versions? Or would much more...

A gift for you all: The 5e Spell Sorter!

Mind-bogglingly useful, thanks! I've noted a few typos... "Etheralness" for the Bard version of the spell. And "Mirrage Arcane", also for the Bard version.

    D&D 5E (2014) Minor rant - y'ever just hate your players' characters?

Oh good heavens yes. I once created a campaign world in which one monotheistic religion was dominant, with various othercultures at the fringes. So naturally EVERY SINGLE PLAYER came up with a concept from the fringes. Different ones, of course. Why are they together? I eventually came up...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering "Monsters": Magic Items

I'm still laughing at the idea of 4 permanent magic items per character being considered "low magic".

New News! There's a new update on the Kickstarter which goes into the game mechanics in more detail! I like what I'm seeing!

I don't know that a mod API would even be necessary off the bat, because it sounds like you can do quite a lot of tweaking with the base engine. I suppose it would allow people to tweak the rule system, though - emulate other systems more closely?

I for one am really looking forward to this! It has an amazing amount of potential. I'm already plotting how I can translate some campaigns of mine into Storyscape.

What tabletop software do you use?

It's not out yet, but I'm really salivating for Storyscape to get done. You can read about its planned features here: http://slabtowngames.com/index.php/storyscape/system-features . There's plenty more information on the site too. Only downside is that it will use its own in-house system...

D&D 5E (2014) New D&D Next Playtest package is up (19/9/2013) [merged threads]

It occurs to me that since lack of extensive training is the rationale for the ability score prereqs, that one could bypass them using the downtime mechanic to get training. Now, I have no idea how the downtime system is going to work, but I assume it has to be something like, 'Devote X time...

Words, Phrases, and Misspellings We Hate

I can't believe nobody's mentioned horde/hoard yet. Those two are confused constantly even by people who really should know better, and it drives me nuts! One is an army, the other a treasure, people!

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: More Classes/Subclasses, Retraining & Playing Without Subclasses

My understanding was that they intend for more experienced groups to do just that. First and second level are for beginners.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: More Classes/Subclasses, Retraining & Playing Without Subclasses

Well, he did say that they intended each class to have "at least one" iconic subclass. So there could be more than one that could presumably be frozen in to make Basic 'classes'. In which case I'm still puzzled why some classes aren't subclasses instead.
