    OD&D Morale Question

I'll run some sample combats with my son. Some of the encounters involve a lot of creatures (and hirelings), and this could become a lot of dice rolls to run through. However, it does give a bit more granularity in an encounter. We will run through it and see how fast we can get through an...

    OD&D Morale Question

That all makes sense. I introduced my son to BECMI mechanics (he has only played 5th ed) and ran through a couple combats. We used morale as two distinct roles (Hobgoblin and Goblins). It actually made the combat quicker with Retreat is an option in the game. Thanks for the replies.

    OD&D Morale Question

How does one roll for morale in D&D Cyclopedia rules? Based on the below example, how would I roll for this? Beginning of a combat round, I need to roll for Morale as the first action with the following creatures: Hobgoblin 5 Goblins As the DM, would I roll Morale for each creature (one roll...

D&D General Do you want a 3D vtt?

I don't get to run games very often, but I only play in person and have loads of maps, tiles, loads of 2d flat minis and some miniatures. I'm not entirely sure I need VTT. Of note, I also run a lot of homebrew and riff from a lot various DND products. I guess I'm in a wait and see mode.

D&D General How Do You Feel About Established Lore

I borrow heavily from existing campaign worlds and reskin them to fit in my homebrew. I redrew a Sword Coast map, but rename locations and add the Lightning Rail lines. We wanted to play something akin to Eberron's magic is technology, but also the original idea of Xanathar. Ultimately, mix it...

D&D 5e. Do others play this way?

Fair points. I've not played RPGs in quite a long time (decades, in fact), so the level of integrated technology within the game is vastly different. This is an area I'm behind on and working on options. I suppose using Google Drive as a location for my game notes is a start, haha. Though, I...

D&D 5E (2024) What have you seen new players confused by/mistakes they make?

While none in my family are overly experienced in 5E, my 15 and 17 y.o. had challenges creating new characters. Lots of page flipping. These books really could benefit (or I create it myself) some type visual cheatsheet to speed up character creation. Something simple on a single powerpoint...

D&D 5e. Do others play this way?

For context, I played D&D throughtout the 80s and early to mid 90s before moving onto other games. Our D&D games evolved from playing whatever adventure written for the appropriate level we could find to trying to be as immersive as possible within the Forgotten Realms after its release. Over...

D&D General Do you like LOTS of races/ancestries/whatever? If so, why?

My homebrew campaign has a limited pallette. This is primarily a result of my own imagination trying to have it internally work. I can focus on setting dynamics (we play in a post war setting). If a player wants to run something outside of the pallette, I want them to help me develope how to...

D&D General XP Awards for -- what????

I checked all the options. Ultimately, I distribute XP if its described in an encounter and the MM, but most of my adventures are homebrew and will award XP based on how the players interact with the game. Roleplay, outside the box thinking (IE: something I didn't think of), playing their...

    D&D General Amalgam World

I've combined Forgotten Realms with Eberron using the LMoP adventure. It is one year after a peace treaty among the Lords of Waterdeep/Sword Coast and Netherese. The Netherese still exist and were the first to manipulate Drogonshards creating a magical/technological realm. The Netherese created...

The Original Star Frontiers Retro Review

This was my introduction into RPGs. We made it to the escape pod, but met our ends on Volturnas. Still a fond memory from 40 or so years ago. Can't remember the mechanics, but this game introduced me to the world of role playing that I now am passing on to my teenage children.
