Flattening the math: AC and Attack bonuses idea

AC values are around 10-20 throughout the entire game and don't increase much. Attack bonuses increase over time. Hitting the AC with an a d20 + attack bonuses roll results in a hit, dealing weapon damage plus modifiers. Hitting intervals(of, let's say, 5) above the target's AC will result in...

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

I actually didn't intend to be snarky. The game I remember wasn't D&D, but either a TCG or video game. I think the hit point threshold was something like a thousand hit points, which doesn't quite match up with D&D.

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

I recall playing a game that was like this, where an instant-death attack only worked if the opponent had a certain number of hit points or less. I can't remember what game it was, however.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crazy Ideas 5E Should Not Adopt

All checks will be opposed checks. To see that chair, you need to do a Spot/Perception skill check opposed to the chair's Hide skill check. Addendum: All objects have skills. Objects are people too, you know.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crazy Ideas 5E Should Not Adopt

Hit points are replaced by Damage Threshold(DT). Take your DT in damage in a single attack and you get a Fortitude save(DC = damage). If you fail, you die. Now, you no longer need to keep track of your hit points, so less bookkeeping.

    Assassin in DDN

Some people earlier talked about doing something similar to the "Colour wheel" from magic with the classes. I'm just trying to think about how this would work. It would likely be based on the four main classes, Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, and Wizard. So to put it that way... Martial - Fighter ^ |...

    Stances

I'm not quite sure what the advantage is of giving certain bonuses for being in a certain "stance" as opposed to bypassing a stance system and just giving the bonuses.

Conceptual Problem - Fighter vs. Ranger

Warlord seems to me as leader-type warrior. The name seems to be deliberately vague enough to encompass any such character, whether it's a bandit lord or front-line general. I went looking around the 4th-edition art and the weapon sizes don't seem particularly unrealistic. I've seen some with...

Conceptual Problem - Fighter vs. Ranger

Sorry for nitpicking a little, but are you saying that the Warlord class doesn't have any precedent in any mythological and/or literary text or that it came from the "anti-hero" or "manga" influence?

Robin D. Laws: The 7 Gamer Types

I got: Method Actor 83% Tactician 67% Power Gamer 67% Storyteller 50% Specialist 50% Casual Gamer 33% Butt-Kicker 33% I can't say I really agree with it. I like rolling dice, it's a nice abstraction layer between my abilities and my character's. I like game systems and I particularly like...

Tiefling and half-orc should not be in the PHB

Personally, I would like to see a variety of exotic races. It'll sell to me better as a fantasy world where fantastic things happen. I would kinda like to see the different races do things that you wouldn't expect a human to. Although I seem to be a bit of a minority in that.

    "Power Sources" and Classes

I don't know about calling them "Power Sources" specifically, perhaps something like "Type" would be better, but I think, if included, they should be attached to different abilities rather than the classes themselves. Magic Missile is Arcane, Cure Light Wounds is Divine, whacking somebody on the...

Do You Want A D&D That Is "Faster, Better, Smarter"?

It got me to think Citius, Altius, Fortius, or "Faster, Higher, Stronger".

Doing away with "Bigger Fish" problem.

An idea I had: Keep the Fighter's BAB progression, or something like that, have some decent hit point progression, but keep AC mostly static, increasing minimally, throughout the game. Instead, make it so that for every 5 or 10 you beat the opponent's AC by, you roll the damage dice again and...

    Might vs Magic

I don't agree that they should all be needed in a "complete party". Players should have the freedom to play the way they want without being forced into the Cleric because the party lacks a healer, for example.

    Might vs Magic

I suppose that's legitimate, but without it, any concept of long-term resources kinda goes away. Perhaps the best answer would to have quicker battles. Make it so that you can play through a number of battles in a single hour. Each battle should be fun and enjoyable, of course, but the focus...

    Might vs Magic

Base the game around random encounter rolls and mandate a certain number of encounters a day?

    Might vs Magic

I wouldn't mind the game being balanced over the course of an adventuring day rather than over a single turn or battle. Personally, that'll be preferable.

    Adding attrition with "Bloodied"

If I wanted to just have the pure combat gameplay, then I would play a video game RPG. Now, I do that anyways, but the point is that I think Dungeons and Dragons is, at the very least, capable of more than that. D&D can get me to feel that I'm a person in a world. I can be a farmer who can...

    Proposed Damage / Healing System

This is actually sort of the point of such a system. You're not supposed to go from full wounds to none in a single encounter. The idea is that replenishing hit points is easier overall, but wounds carry over between encounters. It makes for a more long-term survival possible while still...
