    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer Changes

OMG, I never thought I'd say this but Chaosmancer is right. We should probably add that barbarians stink because they have to ration when they rage, fighters stink because they have to ration when they action surge, rangers are garbage because they have so few spells, paladins are trash because...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer Changes

This. I also want to beat on Chaosmancer for getting stuck on the multi-class advantages I mentioned and not realizing that you have all the same options as a single class sorcerer just with different names. Don't want to use EB? I bet you can find a flame based cantrip that deals the same...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer Changes

Does it use their resources? Sure. Is it a great advantage of the class? OMFG yes! IMO its actually one of the best metamagics, especially for multi-class sorcerers. Want to gish? This is the best way to cast and attack in the same turn. Want to disengage and cast? Bingo. Some mook still...

D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew modification of Sharpshooter: reasonably within line?

I sort of see where you are coming from, but I wouldn't want to see this level of damage for every style. Frankly, I'm not a fan of it being part of the ranged tree at all, but I do like it for 2H. I'd be more comfortable with giving each style their own shtick. Give S&B an option where they...

    D&D General Alignment in D&D

I agree with almost everything you just posted. Monk is the only class that I struggle to refluff for different concepts. Most of it works well for boxers, brawlers, or brutes with a little parkour, but a few of those class abilities really push it into Crouching Tiger territory despite all the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer Changes

I'm a little late to the party here, but are we ignoring quickened spells stacked with cantrips? A few of the sorcerors I've seen played used quicken to dramatically increase their damage in tough fights.

    D&D General Alignment in D&D

Alignment has always been best when used descriptively rather than perscriptively. Descriptive example: that dude is CE. Prescriptive example: your character wouldn't do that because he's CE. Its also good shorthand to convey complex ideas quickly, but not great with details.

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

But, I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more... I think that's the lyric. My Google is lazy right now. Hopefully everyone can have an hour or so of that catchy little tune from the Proclaimers rattling around in their heads. In all seriousness, safe travels.

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

So is your problem how this was executed in 5e, or an active dislike for the concept as a whole?

D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Moves Forward With Deal With Former Marvel Exec Jeremy Latcham

Something episodic with an overarching storyline... sounds like a standard campaign.

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

Getting side tracked here. Frenzy isn't the actual discussion. Try this out, in MTG black decks often use sacrificing life or creatures to power their best tricks. Thats the way i see Frenzy. How do people feel about say, Sorcerers taking Con damage to power up a spell, or Fighters taking a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

In another thread we spent some time discussing the merits and flaws of the Barbarian's Frenzy ability from 5e. I don't want to rehash that whole conversation, but it did strike me as odd that the Frenzy feature has a significant benefit, and a scaling penalty depending on number of times it is...

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

That really depends on the adventure. Flipping through a few issues of Dungeon magazine supports the idea that climax encountrrs are rather obvious and I can easily see places where a Barbarian could frenzy twice an adventure, or other characters could semi-nova. Lets face it, many encounters...

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

I'll grant you that they don't lend themselves to social/knowledge tasks, but there is no reason for that beyond min/maxing. Loads of examples in literature of charismatic barbarians. It is going to be less common at tables that use point buy or a stat array, but charming/intelligent barbs have...

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

    1. What do you mean by "even more usless outside of combat?" I have rebuttals, but don't want to put words in your mouth. 2. The boss fight is the one I was hired (or whatever) to do. Slay whatever thing was doing the bad. Etc. If I missfire it means I end the adventure with 2 levels of...

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

Sure. And there are instances where that would be a major bummer, but after most boss fights do your players rush right into the next adventure? That's not usually my experience. A few days recovering in the tavern or temple are far more common, and easily remove 2 levels of exhaustion (unless...

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

And yet the barbarian DOES still have "it" available. He is only penalized on ability checks. That actually makes him better than those other classes.

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

I don't think that's a bug. I think its a feature. Instead of a hard cap, the designers allow the player to decide if the penalty is worth the bonus. As a final-fight ability its perfect.

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

I have yet to play a barbarian in 5e so maybe I'm missing something, but isn't that the same thing that would happen to a wizard that used his high level spell slots on trivial encounters, or a paladin that ubersmited a guard instead of the BBEG, or a monk that blew through his ki points, or a...
