Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th: Players near Doylestown, PA?

A growing group of us in Doylestown/Newtown area would like to introduce new players to the joys of gaming in a grim world of perilous adventure. If you'd like to have a go at trudging through muck, absurd dark humor, Chaos and corruption, you're welcome to join us...

    Compare/Contrast: Old West - GURPS & Mythras (RQ6)

I was an earlier adopter of Aces & Eights, but frankly I don't care much for the combat system mechanics. Shot clock, poker chip stuff. It's just not for me, but you're dead on for the sort of tone of game that I'd like. I'm a big fan of that game, even if some of the gimmicky resolution side...

    Compare/Contrast: Old West - GURPS & Mythras (RQ6)

I'm trying to decide on a system to use for a gritty, realist Old West game. I've played Mythras (RQ6) some and liked it, but also hear generally good things about GURPS. What Pros and Cons are there to each of these systems? Which would you recommend? I'm open to other suggestions, too.

7TH SEA Sold To John Wick

Roll-and-keep is such a fun mechanic, but the 7th Sea faux Europe setting ended my interest in playing the game quickly. With that said, I think it's swell that the guy who created the setting got a chance to acquire it. I get why people dislike him or the setting enough not to see this as good...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you find Fantasy Grounds just too much of an investment?

My tastes are heavily skewed toward live in-person games, but I have dabbled recently with VTT. I've played a few sessions of both roll20 and FG2, and enjoyed them both. As a player, roll20 seemed choppier and more limited by the DM's lack of skill and experience manipulating the tool. In our...

Perkins' Foreword From OUT OF THE ABYSS

Hmmm. "A Red and Pleasant Land" riffed hard and well on the Alice in Wonderland theme several months ago. I'm excited for this adventure, but am already rolling my initiative for the moment Drizz't pops up. I kid, but I really do hope we see less than little of him in the story.

D&D 3.x 5E's Initial Raw Sales Numbers Stronger Than 3E's!

I've heard from a couple of FLGS here that they did not go all in on stock of 5e materials, because they got killed and wanted to play wait and see. They confessed they were blown away by demand that they did not anticipate and were out of stock opening weekend. And the other thing I've...

D&D 5E (2014) PHB is #3 right now on "Amazon's Hot New Releases"

I've heard from a couple of FLGS here that they did not go all in on stock of 5e materials, because they got killed and wanted to play wait and see. They confessed they were blown away by demand that they did not anticipate and were out of stock opening weekend. And the other thing I've...

[UPDATED] RAGE OF DEMONS! New D&D Storyline Features Drizzt, Underdark, & Demon Lords!

Those must be amazing sales numbers that grant WotC marketing and creative infallibility. What's obvious is that Drizzt is a polarizing figure in the community. Prediction: the Drizzt stuff will, at best, sell half as well as the lackluster Tyranny of Dragons. Meaning, at least every other...

[UPDATED] RAGE OF DEMONS! New D&D Storyline Features Drizzt, Underdark, & Demon Lords!

Drizzt is a double-edged sword. For every unit his presence sells, his presence un-sells at least one. Making him bolt-off in the story will go a long ways towards marketing this product.

D&D 5E (2014) What Campaign Setting(s) Do You Want To See in 5E?

Along these lines ... If there were two series that I wish WotC (or other publishers) would take a run at they would be the Rothfuss stuff and the New Crobuzon series. The only problem is that WotC knows there's more money to be made publishing novels they own the IP too than selling game books...

    D&D 5E (2014) Opposition

Seeing a fair amount of it with cult leaders in Tyranny of Dragons so far. There's a long history of that going back to 1e.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why you shouldn't allow optional rules.

So do your players' foes get access to GWM and Sharpshooter feats, too? When optional rules cut both ways lethal balance is restored.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Red and Pleasant Land (5e hack)

A Red and Pleasant Land is more surreal and imaginative, whereas Ravenloft is sort of dips into staid baroque melodrama. Two different flavors for sure. It would not be a simple drop, but a clever person could find a way to fold Ravenloft in. Having recently played the classic Ravenloft, I...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Red and Pleasant Land (5e hack)

I'm toying with idea of using this world as an alternative place that people find or are sent to .... like the Dreamlands or the Village of The Prisoner fame. Beyond 5e, I could even see The Place of Unreason being a surreal place that even characters in my Night's Black Agents or Call of...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Red and Pleasant Land (5e hack)

I really like what you've done with your cut at it. The concept of the Alice intrigues me so much, but I'm not sure yet that I need it to be a class. If you've ever played Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd, I sort of see it like a Party Card, where the party can tap into Exasperation at...

    A Red and Pleasant Land

A Red and Pleasant Land is a recent release from Lamentations of the Flame Princess. It's a setting book that will fuel imaginative play and slam a world-weary GM out of a rut. Here's the basic story ... mash up Alice in Wonderland and vampires. Fill the pages with stunning imagery that...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Red and Pleasant Land (5e hack)

Since falling back in love with D&D with the release of 5e, I have been scouring the web and bookstores looking for a campaign setting for a campaign. Forgotten Realms is cool and all, but I am looking for something different to run eventually. One mind-blowing option is A Red and Pleasant...
