WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

And if only they were the final decision makers, this would be fine. But I dont think they are. In fact, I know they arent.

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

I'm not sure this is true. I shure hope it is. But, for instance, they havent offered me such a license. And I am historically their best and closest third party publisher (other than Paizo). They licensed Tome conetnt to me, etc. And I think over the years we have proven to be excellent...

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

Nope, its my interpretation, too. And I believe it is the 100% truth. This is not conjecture. Dont dismiss it as conjecture. But it isnt the truth for all of Wizards. I know there are many there who are fighting for open gaming. Scott, Linae, etc.

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

You are presuming that there is this all-prescient decision maker who truly knows the best interestes of the business. That just isnt the case in any business. If that was the case, all those decisions made by T$R back in the day wouldnt have led them to ruin. You cant just trust managers to...

Yep. You hit it on the head.

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

No it wont. Wizards doesnt have to use the GSL/OGL. Nothing in the books will solve this problem.

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

I agree that is the interpretation. I dont think this is about HOW they license 4E to us. I think the decision has gone back to WHETHER OR NOT they license it at all. That said, I know that Scott and many people at Wizards are believers in open gaming and are fighting for 4E to be open. I hope...

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

Because it very clearly does do good for Wizards. No one involved in open gaming feels that open gaming is bad for Wizards. Only suits would think that way. Seriously. And that is a concern because there are some decision makers at Wizards who are new and have ZERO experience with the actual...

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

It may be an assumption, but I also believe it is true. I think there is a chance that there is no open gaming for 4E. And that really has me concerned. I am one of Wizards' biggest supporters on these boards. I always have been. I've worked with them in the past. I've gotten special...

D&D 4E What was Paizo thinking? 3.75 the 4E clone?

Remember, in 4E that will have to be a 60 x 60 foot room. Someone will undoutedly have teleport and the ability to shift the orc or the pie. We have to give the PCs enough room to move around have have fun with their minis! Hey, dont we need a mini for the pie?

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

When that game arrives, ask me. Right now, there is not even any game close to what you describe--for me, anyway. I dont care if it is Wizards or not. I care about D&D. That said, I think so far Wizards has done a good job caretaking my favorite game and hobby. They have done alot to...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

I was a bit grouchy today, and it came through in my posts. I posted some thoughts I was having. But that shouldnt change the fact that I trust the people at Wizards to do this and to do it right. I know Linae and Scott are good people. I know this will get ironed out. Though I have that...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

Yeah, well, you spoke for me pretty well. Look, D&D has always grown and evolved. There have been things with every edition I didnt like and other parts that were great. I think 4E will be no different.

xechnao, you seem cool, but I never really know what you are saying :) I'm sorry if it always seems like I am busting on you, I'm not. I just dont get it.

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

Nope. Check some of the pages. Linae signed off on at least one of them. Their current people have signed off on this stuff.

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

I dont often talk about my personal life. Its not that relevant. But I want to make something clear because I think alot of people discount the views of the third party publishers because we have a self interest. We want the license so we can make products. Sure, that is true to some degree with...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

I know. I just talked to Stewart Wieck from White Wolf just a few minutes ago. I was recounting some of the stuff here with him. My worry that someone at Wizards might be too shortsighted to see the value to Wizards of open gaming. Here is what Stewart Wieck, the president of WW, the primary...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

Yeah, but you are forgetting about the peel away effect. Gamers are fickle. Unless you provide them something they are interested in, they will peel away from the core game over time and will go to other games. There is no way any one company can keep all the D&D gamers continually interested...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

I'll admit, I dont have any inside info. All I have is faith and a strong belief that no one could be foolish enough to just disavow all the things they said they believe in. I'm concerned. And that isnt good, since I am probably the loudest voice on the interwebs supporting Wizards and saying...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

Hmm. I'm disappointed by that comment. But maybe I am reading it wrong. It is inconcievable to me that they are "vetting their final policy regarding open gaming." I could believe that they are deciding how to handle the new licenses. I thought their policy on open gaming was on their current...
