    Gygax doesn't matter?

I'll jump in on this. I was offended by that "article" and I'm not afraid to say it. Gary was a great guy. I knew him. He was kind, warm, wittily aware of the strange legacy he created, thoughtful, funny and nice. Bill and I took him to dinner one GenCon and he had the best stories to tell...

    Monster Design--from a designer's standpoint

I will say there are a few things I want to improve about monster design in 4E. 1. More description. Right now, due to space limits is my guess, there is almost no description of the monster and how it acts away from the battle mat. Our Tome of Horrors will add in a bit more of that content...

    [Necromancer] Tome 4E guaranteed!

Good question. Erik Mona and I are working on that now.

    [Necromancer] Tome 4E guaranteed!

Yes, because at this point it will be almost impossible to hit a GenCon release (not saying absolutely impossible, but most likely). We are in.

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

I'm not trying to give the official answer. I'm just trying to say that there are some things that gamers are trying to project onto publishers as being the problem we are having. Such as the fact that the GSL is under an NDA. I'm just saying that as an actual publisher that is not my issue. I...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

From my standpoint, that is easy. Necro wouldnt exist without open gaming. I would be here posting this. I wouldnt be working with Paizo. I wouldnt have met Monte and Sue Cook and Erik Mona and and Lisa Stevens and Ryan Dancey and the crew at WotC and Gary Gygax and Rob Kuntz and Steve and...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

That is a great question. I would call the OGL and Open Gaming in general a huge success from WotC's standpoint. However, I'm not sure that everyone has the point of view as me. And, I will concede, I think there were a few things that werent great from WotC's perspective. Open Gaming played...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

I'll reconsider my position, based on your post. But you have to remember, I'm not just a poster named Orcus. I am the president of a company--a company that happens to do business with Paizo. So I dont just represent me, I represent my company. I'm happy to join in the GSL discussion. It is an...

    [Necromancer] Tome 4E guaranteed!

No, its not bad. I think, at this point, a lot of people's excitement about 4E has been impacted by the tenor of the discussion about 4E (not saying yours is, just commenting generally) and all the acrimony from many of the posts (which is unfortunate). I am excited about Tome 4E, and I am...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

AC- I'll admit I'm a little disappointed. You brought me over to this thread to add my comments. I did. Now I feel a bit sucked in. That last post of yours, with the melodramatic link to the Paizo board, is just over the top. I've said what I need to say here. I believe in WotC and Scott...

I sure do hope you get some answers to those questions of yours, to loop this back to where you started :)

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

I like Mearls alot. And he is a heck of a designer. But I have to give the nod to Monte. I've never met anyone like him when it came to design. He is a Genius! Mearls is five shades of awesome, but Monte is Monte. He is the man. No disrespect to Mearls, of course.

    [Necromancer] Tome 4E guaranteed!

Scott and I are absolutely going nuts right now with monsters. Some awesome ones from myth, like the catoblepas. Some cool ones Scott and I created. Some ones from prior Tomes and even a few from the Creature Collection (spider eye goblins, alley reaper -a personal favorite- and undead ooze to...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

Everything is a process. I wouldnt be surprised to see a small term here or there tweaked after the publishers look at the GSL and in response to our suggestions. But whether draft or not, it isnt public till June. So it isnt strange or uncommon for a licensor to keep the license private. That...

WotC Doesn't (Didn't) Understand the OGL

My understanding is that there will be a seperate SRD, it wont be in the GSL. That SRD will not be like the current 3E SRD. It wont have all the content in it. It will simply be a list or a document saying what we can use. As for the GSL being private, there is nothing "odd or confusing" about...

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

True, but WotC coould grant that permission as part of teh GSL so no worries. Reuse has always been frought with peril :) Yes, that does make things more complicated, but not impossible. Clark

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

Yeah, but that is only because (1) people dont know what they are doing, which I cant fix, or (2) people are doing crappy designations on purpose, which I cant fix either. There are plenty of people who do it right and do a good job and make their content easy to use--like Necro for example. :)

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

I wouldnt look at it that way at all. Its just what we lawyers do. ALL of my licenses and contracts--with WW, Paizo, JG, everyone--have all had confidentiality provisions. Its not that unusual. What IS unusual is to release draft agreements publically. So its the OGL that was unusual, not the...

WotC Doesn't (Didn't) Understand the OGL

I hear you. I wish the process was more transparent and open, too. I liked that about Ryan and the 3E process. But the bottom line is trust. Sure, it is easier to trust when you have a discussion list and frequent updates. You feel more in the loop. But we shure took a big chance with the way...
