D&D General Let's Look At Loke Battlemats

I like these as well. Many also come in hexes for players of GURPS and other games which is always nice too.

Peasant Adventure! The City is Sinking (HARP Fantasy)

Umph. I don't do Roll20 but good luck. Its great to see someone playing HARP as I had most of the books in hardcopy and never used them.

D&D General Intelligent BBEG captured PCs, now what?

The BBEG will be able to decide how much of a threat they are. With INT 24 this should be childplay If they are manageable and can be ransomed to family, friends or just sold as slaves you can do that, If not some Matriarch can always order they be sacrificed to Lloth at some near future...

    D&D 4E Am I crazy? I've just gotten a hankering to play 4e again...

Not at all. If you are having fun you are gaming the right way,.

D&D 5E (2014) The Fall Of The Dwarves: What Races Do People Actually Play?

That's it. Thanks. I seem to recall it was good though not terribly special beyond its magic system.

D&D 5E (2014) The Fall Of The Dwarves: What Races Do People Actually Play?

There was a 3E era game that actually had dwarven steppes nomads along with a five elements magic system. I can't remember the name for the life of me and its telling that the game has fallen low on the Google search threshold.

Pathfinder 2E Taking20 -"I'm Quitting Pathfinder 2e Because of This Issue"

Disclaimer. I've never played PF2, its too detailed for my D&D needs. I can see his point. If no one much is going to use the rules, why include them? Personally I'd rather have to deal with the illusion of choice than the tyranny of choice, which so to say "repeat a few optimum moves" vs...

    D&D 5E (2014) Has D&D Combat Always Been Slow?

Real combat situations are often to frantic for much trash talk or much talk beyond brief signals, grunts groans and screams . In game I suppose this makes things realistic though if you are going for a cinematic vibe it can be disappointing. If you want players to do this you kind of need to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Has D&D Combat Always Been Slow?

    1) Not Really though it can be slow if players are allowed to drag their feat when their initiative comes up or if there is lack of perpetration especially at high levels. 2) I think bounded accuracy goes a long way to speeding up combat though variable spells slow it a bit. 3) D&D ranges...

D&D 5E (2014) Everyone Should Play Custom Lineage by Default

Nothing wrong with you doing this if it works for you but no thanks. Its my job as DM to decide what lineages are in my game and how they fit into the world.

Chivalry & Sorcery Returns To Feudal Japan

I've gamed with amazing levels of diversity of all kinds and frankly, its been pretty good . Now as to Gary. As many good things I have to say about Gary Gygax the father of our hobby the guy was a bit of a eccentric as can be discerned from anyone who met him, read his writing or his FBI...

Chivalry & Sorcery Returns To Feudal Japan

True however the rule of fun outweighs perfect realism. Everyone is expecting Ninjas , given the amount in anime and manga probably even people in Japan. Going pure realism turns an RPG into a text book fast. I don't think there is a market for that.

D&D 5E (2014) What proportion of the population are adventurers?

Not bad. Your numbers would be 1 in 2000 or so which means Waterdeep has maybe 50 . I think that might be a bit low for worlds with magic, monsters and limited government If you add other adventurous professions, flanuers, archeologists, climbers and the like its probably 30K, maybe 100 in...

Chivalry & Sorcery Returns To Feudal Japan

Presuming the anecdote is accurate and given what you noted, I rather agree with you. Still times change and our ability to communicate and appreciate the accomplishments of other genders has gotten a bit better since then or when Alice Sheldon had to write SF as James Triptree to be published.

Chivalry & Sorcery Returns To Feudal Japan

I think this was more product of the era than any sexism on Gary's part. Very few women wrote games back in the day and Lee is normally in the US a man's name. FWIW Kim Mohan got the opposite opprobrium and a some nasty innuendo as well and he's male. As often said the past was a different...

What Systems Need More Adventure Content?

I want to add that if you can meet the fairly tough criteria, SJ Games is great company to write for. I wrote a few D20 things for them back in the day and they treated writers with respect and pay on time in full. Its not a surprise that they have been around for decades. SJ's people are...

D&D General Yan C Bin is the worst name in D&D

Had Dr. Cañyon Fauder in a Call of Cthulhu Game. It did not go well.

D&D General Yan C Bin is the worst name in D&D

So many people forget the profound influence that Moorcock had on D&D. A decent argument could be made that other than some trappings, D&D is much more Moorcock than Tolkien. As an aside, the inclusion of Melnibonean stuff in Deities and Demigods was with express permission of Moorcock and he...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shield Saltiness

    I think so too.

    D&D 5E (2014) Shield Saltiness

Full body protection could be had at munitions grade but it would have more weak spots and certainly wouldn't be as protective or agile as Milanese White Harness or Gothic Plate. It would probably count as Splint in 5e which is about as much as the system would allow for differentiation.
